fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Naomi tried to get her chicks on the roost this evening. I walked out to the coops to make sure they were secure before dark. I heard the panicked peeping, then saw the reason why.

There were three who managed to get up on the roost with her, about 4' up. The others were circling below, trying to figure it out.

Naomi finally flew back down, followed by the chicks who'd managed the feat. They're all back in the brooder for the night.

I'm sure she'll try again tomorrow.

omg I WISH Harriet would get on the roost - she STILL is in the nest with 6 week olds!! Naomi is efficient!!
I think Naomi is feeling crowded, sleeping in the brooder with 6 growing and extremely active chicks. I slept a little later this morning, after dawn. Naomi and her brood were very active and VOCAL as I approached the coop to let them out!
:D;):p

Is Harriet a bantam?

She isn't -- but she is a very small and lithe cream legbar and isn't huge by any stretch. She isn't crested - just a Tractor Supply cream legbar, but she does lay a blue egg -- not that I have seen one in months haha

Naomi is seriously the prettiest hen :love

I'm sure Naomi had a pep talk with the chicks this morning.

"We are going to practice this maneuver again today kids. Spread those wings. You ARE a bird! Get those little tushies up there! You can do it!"

🤣
Naomi's a "Tough Love" mom, see the video I just posted.
