Fuzzy's Farm

Nova - Now you know you can take Chicken Little for Kim. lol He needs a home immediately. I have nowhere to put him or I would take him. But if everything else fails I will take him off her hands so she don't get in trouble. I don't like Serama's.

"whoot whooot" this board really needs a 'like' button.

ROBIN- I LOVE seramas- but them little birds are LOUD.

Hi All! Not much going on today it looks like. Too cold to go out and play with the goats. Too bored and unmotivated to do housework. Just basically too lazy today. Good thing is DH and I are going in to see "Lincoln". We haven't been to a movie in forever so should be fun.

Where is everyone? Nova, did your little guy love the silkie cake?

Yes, He loved the cake!

Fuzzy, I think you should include that article in your links if you haven't already.

Got some very ticked off birds here. The faverolles are not happy about not being able to go outside. Poor babies. Florus is figuring out that neither Rod Stewart or Fritz the Jerk can get at him. He's a bit happier, but he's also ticked that he can not get outside to get to the neighbors hens. LOL Neighbor only has one rooster for 19 hens, makes it easier for Florus to get a girl. LOL

I haven't yet, but i will. I want to read the other articles too, i liked how well presented it was. Some articles didn't tell me the things i wanted to know, others said everything but not in a way i understood! This one struck a good balance. :)

It was good. It might be what can explain why Esdee just dropped dead...

I have a new garage sleeper tonight. Fia decided to join the slumber party. My SLW, I am going to give her the broad spec antibiotic for the next few days. See if maybe, just maybe this is the problem. I picked her up today, which is a challenge, she's not normally catchable, and even now, she was difficult, and I put her to my ear to see what I could hear. Sounds a little clicky... if you understand what I mean... Well anyway. Getting tetracycline tomorrow.

according to the other articles i read there can be a very high mortality rate, depending on the strain.

What else i found interesting is that the vaccine operates on the same principle as the human flu vaccine, in the sense that there are many strains and the scientists map them and give you the vaccine that matches the strain they THINK you will most likely be exposed to; but being that they don't always travel as expected and they mutate so quick the vaccines are hopeful at best. With the birds this holds true, and they also shed the virus for a while after vaccinating, and stop egg production if you vaccinate as an adult. So basically it's not recommended as practical.

So the bird equivalent of a flu, just keep them hydrated and make sure they don't catch any secondary infections. Pray a little, increase minerals.
