Question? This is crazy, went out to shut the coop to my bantams with chicks, of course my rooster is still in there with them, have had no issues so have just left him in there. Wellll, he was in nest box with the two hens and had chicks under him like the hens! Is he gay or just helping out the mamas! Being a good dad? Lol have great day all.... Let me hear your imput!

So funny about the rooster, Savannah. I think he's just helping out. Fuzzy has the goat. I just send off advice (probably too much - lol). How's Mississippi these days?

Ooooh, wisdom teeth. OUch! Makes me hurt just thinking about them.

Just so you know, I nearly peed myself reading Savannah's last post! LOL

I actually had a rooster, Roger (silkie) who finished raising chicks after a raccoon took his lady, Leila, and 5 of their chicks. There were only 3 left, and he raised them. Sat so they could be under him and protected them from the other hens, and called them. So, yes, he's just taking care of his flock. For the most part, I have never a rooster in my flock that has ever been mean to chicks. It's usually the other hens who are. Even yesterday, Criptoe's little chick was in the Marans pen, and it was Blueberry who was pecking to get him out. Strutter couldn't give two hoots that he was there.

Speaking of Blueberry... Her and Eldee got into a full out, I am the BIGGEST WITCH (only spelled with a b), fight! It was my fault she got out. I forgot to put the step in stake up to prevent the Marans pen from opening into the greater pen, and not just to their out door area. Holy cow, I don't know why people like cock fighting. Just put a two hens together, more vicious. Needless to say, I had to get a leaf rake, to get one hen, they were under the bates motel, off the other hen, and force them close to me so I could grab Blueberry, who was none worse for wear, and toss her back in her pen. Then off to check Eldee who was really pithed off and wouldn't stop complaining at me the whole time I was checking her over. She went over to the Marans fence and tried picking/continuing the fight through the fence. Man... chickens.

I think Pat the Rat and the new Silkie Roo (who I have yet to name) have come to an understanding I think. Both the silkies were OUT of their pen this morning. No blood was shed, and both the boys were minding their own business. I put the silkies back in their pen though. I didn't want Rod Stewart going after him. I don't think he will, cuz he is much smaller than Rod, Or he might so that the silkie know's he's king kahuna in the yard... BUT I'd rather not.

The Storm is expected to hit here in about 2 more hours... GAH!

Feel for you Nova with more weather coming in, im sick of rain and up and down temps! But yes I was very surprised to see the rooster taking care of the baby's was very strange indeed, I'm getting pics tonight when they get in the coop. You all remember I'm very new at chickens period, so I've been learning as I go along. But thank all of you for imput. I appreciate it. Ok so I get everyone confused on here, glad the goats being taken care of. And the one with mom with sugary hope all is well. And I'm very happy to be part of this group! .

We're finally back. Took a bit longer than I thought it would.
Anyway, got him settled and then ran out to let the chickens out for a bit before the rain comes and made sure all the animals had food/water. Looked at wzzm and the rain is over the lake right now, but the mass of it is still in Wisconsin/Illinois so I think it's going to get wet soon and then really wet later.
Now, I'm taking a moment and waiting for the pharmacy to call to let me know the pain meds are ready. They are so slow! I gave him a couple of motrin so hopefully it'll help til the big meds are available.

savannah, I've never seen any of my boys do that, but I've heard of it.

What rain I have lots of sun here guess I better take a peak at the weather. then again maybe not!

You guys maybe needing an ark! I am waiting for more rain so I can roll my yard. Chickens are happy though little sprouts of green to nibble.

Nova I have a hen doesn't fight but she goes after everyone and everyone avoids her. She's real witch. Pretty but a *itch.

My Lake front property...

mine... I know. it's a mess, but I have kids, they drag toys, buckets, themselves all over...

I fully expect that basket ball to be on the other side by morning.

I am tempted to figure out how I could possibly turn that cube into a coop....lol. I know. I am so sad.

The buildings are the neighbors coops and rabbit hutches.

Nova I was going to say dig some trenches. But after looking at it it looks like low land with no where to run,unless you want to dig to China.
Poor birds. Poor Nova trying to keep them afloat.
We're getting part of your storm now, I don't think as much rain as you. But you really don't need to share!
