Fuzzy's Farm

Well... I was sure that one egg under the garage duo would not hatch. It was only filling half the shell. WELL, lo and behold, I have 4 babies under them two. Yup. It hatched. A cute yellow fluffy thing. SO, I am thinking that the one I was sure wasn't going to hatch is the uber tiny black one. I am going to get a pic of the mama. I had to take them out of the nest they were in and put them in something different. One of the babies fell out, and luck would have it that I decided to check on them and found one of the chicks on its back, out of the nest, the garage door open, so very cold in there. I snatched it up, and warmed it with my breath on its body until it started to get a bit more lively, then put it back in with moms. I then moved their nest box under the heat lamp, just in case... WELL, I went out again, and another baby was out and couldn't get back in either. SO, took them all out of the nest, moved them into a the box that I got from Townline, it has a low cut out that if they were to get out again, they can get back in. Both moms are still sitting together, and very happy to keep doing so... I think I could separate them, and give them each two babies.. but... as long as they are happy together doing the mom thing, then so be it. SO, 3 faverolles babies, and one faverolles x.... with which roo...dunno. Super freaking cute!

Hey everyone! Well I've missed you all. I have been sooo sick got bronchitis really having difficulty breathing, back on nebulizer inhalers, antibiotics! But besides that my tiny little Agnus that is the size of a quail maybe has went broody, she has 7 eggs under her stole 3 from other bantam. Just wondering how long it takes them to actually hatch (my first time remember?) and if she can actualy hatch that many she's got them covered. And she won't let me near her starts carring on like crazy and pecks at me! Lol they will be very small I know, do I move her out after chicks hatch? Will rooster and other hen hurt the baby's? I'm new at this! And Ole Sam is still with me he has 2 lady's now and seems better! Might put another hen in with them, but this time the RIGHT way! Lol have good one any imput is welcome! And nova congrats on new chicks! Can't wait to see pics of them!!!

If you are going to let her sit, you need to put an x on the eggs on the fat end with a sharpie. Better yet, put what the date for hatch is. It takes 21 days to hatch. Don't worry about her pecking you either. She'll get used to you putting your hand under her to get eggs. Also, to check the eggs in 7 days to make sure they are all developing. Then pretty much leave be after that. When it is a day or so before hatch day, section her off for a few days in her nest box so no other birds can get in during that time. If the nest box is up off the floor, you might need to move her and the chicks to a floor next after she's finished hatching. Not before, or she will abandon the eggs and go back up to the nest she prefered. Be sure to have chick waterer and feeder in her nest area the day she starts hatching. I love chicken wire and staples. You can make a chicken wire curtain to keep the other birds out and her and the chicks safe for the first several days. It's not uncommon for other hens to snatch and kill chicks... Gross and freaky, but happens. I know... Trust me on that one. A if you don't think she can handle 7, then take a few before she's set to long. Go with 4....

So, its 5:30 am... Going to bed but first things first....

I went out to check the girls in the garage before work. I could not find Ekta anywhere. Not like there are a lot of places to hide in my garage... Then I got this brilliant idea... Look under Skeeter... So... I pick Skeeter up, and there is Ekta. I have a broody, brooding a broody, brooding chicks. So funny. So cute. Had to share.

Well, now. That's a bit different. LOL

Morning everyone. Feeling pretty good today. Got to sleep in for the first time in a week. Get to relax all day today before starting the next week of the h*llish route I'm on. I'm covering for a carrier for 6 weeks while he's out for neck surgery and his route it the worst. Need the money so I'm dealing, but it is kicking my butt.

Nova, how's the bagel job going?

well, Top o the Mornin' to you all..

Ive got to run to the pet store for cat food- but wanted to share.

If you need a rooster, I have decided I can touch any hatching eggs you have, and grant your wishes.

I separated the quail yesterday. Ten males- and two maybes. Eight females, two maybes.

I kept the two bloodiest males. They were chosen by default. Male quail fight more than multiple roosters. They go for each others eyes- and never stop trying to mate with and kill one another. I have a cage of eight that I am putting on Craigslist...along with these two frizzled serama mixes. Its rather entertaining now that even in a different species I hatch out so many males.

I really am in the mood to hatch out muscovy duck eggs- however I know I would hatch all boys. Robin has a friend who is going to give me a couple ducklings- however, if I pick them, they would both be boyz.

I just ordered me some black bird netting. i will put that up and then I am going to get my girls back from Robins. I have to put the netting up though because the hawk/falcon population is still looking for a buffett here...and I had TWO new stray cats here looking for breakfast this morning. Ive never seen these cats before- i think they may belong to my new neighbors.

Nova- a broody on a broody on chicks is very funny. :)
