Fuzzy's Farm

Went outside to the coop today after the wife complained we were missing a hen. Discovered Penny sitting int he roost box... iwth 7 eggs under her!!! Sheesh go big or go home when its time to get broody eh? I just hope the other chickens are going to keep stuffing eggs under her.

well now baby is doing just as well as the other, can't hardly tell them apart. Only thing is, now momma has decided to make a chew toy out of me, now that i'm not needed any more ^_^

she's getting on my last nerve, i wanna steal those babies and toss her broody butt out with the others! But i'm being a bigger person. Darn those mommas are viscious!

She'll do a better job raising them than you can. She will get better about you touching them. I know. i have LOTS of experience in this. Just be sure not to keep them for too long from her. She's more likely to get more ansy. You'll know you've gotten on her last nerve when she gets in your face. THATS GOOD though. You know she's going to make sure no on messes with her chicks and they'll be safe from the other birds for the first 6 weeks.

Ik in my heart you're right, but dang! I'm working on teaching her to lift her chest a tad, i get woke up since she knows to sit but not to let them back under if they accidentally get out from under. She was doing great and letting me help, but suddenly she decided to be suspicious of me, and won't even let me feed her without inflicting pain. AS in leaping up and hanging off my arm and not letting go???!

I accidentally mowed up my little good luck toad in my yard today. :( I let the grass grow as long as i could and he was hiding in a spot he didn't usually go. I feel tore up about it, it is so sterile in the park and he was a gentle piece of the wilderness in my little corner of the world.

Sorry about the toad fuzzy, I hate hurting anything too. And you ain't telling me anything about a mean hen with chicks. I have two bantams that are so mean I hate dealing with trying to change water or anything. Will tear you up!

So sorry about your toad, Fuzzy.

I know about the *itchy birds. I've got a welsummer who has started going to roost in the nest box. I pull her out and she just pecks at me like crazy. I thump her on the beak and she'll stop. Stupid chicken. And one of my Rhode Islands has decided that she doesn't want to go in to roost. She'll hang around outside until the coop door closes and then I have to reopen it when I go out and chase her in. geeesh.

How was your Fourth? We basically hid. It's my least favorite holiday. It was fun when the kids were little but now it's just hot and the animals all go ballistic. I need to be a bit more positive about it I guess - lol.
bah humbug...

OMG! I am so sick and tired of this losing posts because the stupid site is freezing up when I try to post a picture! I have a hole darn thing typed out, and BAM lost, because I was "Please wait"ing for ever so I had to refresht the page... Post gone! Bam!

Anyway. New roof installed. Fencing under tarp and wood now. Peaked instead of hoop roof.

had a very sick bird. She's better now. Some people... and most of us will know who... would have said to kill off the hole flock. yeah... not happening. One bird... that's it. She was so bad when I found her under the coop, she couldn't see. That's probably why I didn't see her... Under the coop, standing still. Eyes crusted shut, beak snotty, beard stiff. She's had her last day of antibiotics today, is eating and drinking on her own again. and HATES being in the house. She was the one that also alerted me to lice... OMG, they were so bad on her. They were dropping off dead with in hours of treating her.

Little pretty is healing. Keeping her slathered, and her wound is so far so good. Keep smelling her to make sure I do not smell puss in the wound. She's still sitting on her eggs.

AND Loralie has gone broody... She keeps stealing Beulah's nest. LOL They both keep terrorizing the birds that live in that coop, so that those birds are now trying ot go with the big birds, but the big birds terrorize them off those roosts.

I know.. not perfect, but then again... Like I know how to use a measuring tape and a t-square. Pff... NOT HAPPENING!

Little Pretty..

Today I cut all her neck feathers off that were near the wound. In doing that, I found another wound that I had not been treating. I hope HOPE we'll be ok. She's still smelling good as of treatment tonight. Only this time, instead of slathering her with triple A, I used brush/sponge on Red Coat anticeptic oil. Will keep it moist, keep infection at bay too... I hope. I am going to call the vet on monday, and see if he's willing to come by the house, and look her over. I just can not afford a vet bill at this time. So far though, she is spunky and bright eyed. Still nesting. Nasty broody poops. Those are a bit more watery than I like, but she's been through a trauma too. So... As long as they do not turn green... like... neon...
