Garage Chickens...Who does this??

I have mine in the garage too - they have access to an outdoor run through a doggie door. See below:

Everything i used to build was already laying around so this did not cost me anything (my kids painted the coop).

If I were going to do this, I would put down a thick layer of sand in the bottom of that coop. Will make it really easy to rake out and keep it from getting nasty and smelly.

Sounds normal to me, but I'm the guy who used to keep show cockerels/roosters in the cellar all winter long.

I think most people have a separate outside coop. However, I think people either way is "normal". People do what they gotta do. I think that with the increase in urban chickens the rules and norms are not the same as they were 10 yrs ago. If I had a double garage I would consider it mostly because it would be much more predator proof. I live in town but have tons of coons around. After losing a couple of hens to coons I worry all the time and am constantly checking the coop for weaknesses. I built my coop into part of an old greenhouse and added a run.

I put down wood pellets instead of shavings because they create alot less dust.
