for me its not a salad without onions and tomatoes, so i'm jealous of the gold nuggets. maybe one day i can have them in the winter but mine are just patio tomatoes and just getting nice size but still green, sigh
Gold Nuggets do well in a large pot. They are the only tomato that I have found that will both bloom and set fruit in 100°F temperatures.

You can have your onions. I find the taste of raw onions vile and repulsive. I like to be able to taste all the flavors of what I am eating and not be overwhelmed by the smell and taste of onions.

Got an asparagus question... My bed is in its 3rd year and I've been getting a few shoots each day from 5/8" in diameter down to a little bigger than a standard pencil. Today I have two shoots way smaller in diameter than a pencil. Should I let them grow and flower out or cut them back?

mil always let them go to fronds until they were good size, apparently these are new babies. hope that helps, probably wrong

Let the small ones go to seed. It sounds like they have come up from seed and need several years before harvesting.

I would pick any spears that are bigger than 1/2" - because I have no patience to wait 4 years for asparagus!

Of course, it is wild asparagus season so I go out on the ATV and check all the spots 2 times a week. During the peak of the season, I get about 1/2 a plastic grocery bag each time I go out.

Someone went into my garden area last year and picked the asparagus - we had the fence posts up but not the fence itself. This year we have half of a 2' wide chicken wire fence sticking out of the ground - think that will stop the thieves? :rant lol! The 4' fencing and the 2 barbed wires above that will be going in this weekend - hopefully it is not too cold.

Yes. When the shoots are thinner than a pencil, then let them grow. The early/thicker ones take a lot more energy out of the plant and can be eaten. Once they get thin, the plant is running out of energy in the roots and letting those grow will allow it to store energy for next year.

I’m that way about red onion. Too overwhelming. But a good sweet onion makes a big difference. Vadalia are my favorites.
