This is a sand dune. The water so far this year has been 10.4". Some of that was due to snow melt. Some was due to a 3" downpour.

I normally water the garden for 2 hours every other day with two sprinklers running.

I pulled beets today. Got two 5 gallon buckets plus one from a 12' row.

That is a huge beet. Is it just one that grew unusually big,, or a variety that grows big???
I grew beets long time ago. They were no larger than apples. I have no recollection what type they were,,,,,, just beets

There was only one that big. The rest were about half that size. Most people harvest them much earlier. I had enough other stuff to do that I kept putting off the harvest. It is not the first time that I have had this variety grow an unusually big beet.

Because I fertilize with azomite, these beets are extra sweet.

What!? Downsizing is an option?

Given the cost of food going up, I will be building a few more raised beds this spring in the backyard. Last year we had a bad drought, so most of the plants in my main garden died for lack of water. But I had good luck with my raised beds in the backyard where I can water them with a garden hose from the house. So, Dear Wife wants me to build some more raised beds in the backyard for this year.

I will still plant in the main garden, but this year I will be mixing up what I plant in the raised beds by the house. That way, I don't have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak. Last year I did not get any tomatoes or cucumbers from the main garden because they died. This year, I will be planting some of everything in the raised beds - just in case we have another terribly dry summer.

Just want to share a YouTube video on an idea of making container gardening for less than $1.00 per box. Really liked this concept. Also, you could put the containers on a table top or raised bench if you have difficulty bending over. I plan on making some of these containers this year.
