Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

wolfie, my daughter uses wicking buckets. she set me up with about four different kinds. I researched the kind you are using. I am not sold on the wicking action of any of them. yes, you have to water every day anyhow. it does save water. where I live, water and drought are not a problem, at least for the time I have been alive.
80 yrs.
I think a slow release watering system would suit me better.

good morning,
I learned something .
with small engines, the valve adjustment is critical.
in searching the web for valve settings, I found several opinions. finally I found my old Briggs repair manual.
it said to set both valves at .oo4" .
that took care of all the kick back problems. and now it even starts and runs.
Now, with both machines running, I can go back to taking care of my grapes. Wife keeps telling me that they are going crazy..

Glad you found the old repair manual. Maybe online info is for newer ones

I don't think so. I think online is a lot of different people's opinions.
I am glad I found the manual, too.
I was thinking that I would have had to replace the cam shaft. that is a
$55.oo part, not counting gaskets and seals.
this motor is only five years old.

Glad you didn't have to spend that, along with the time and labor involved

A thunderstorm rolled through last night. Got 1.43" of rain with some small hail. An 1" of it happened in about 1 hour.

Won't have to water the garden today.
I hope some of that downpour soaked in.
we keep getting spurts of rain. just enough to keep things moist. it sure makes the lawn grow.

Because I keep everything watered, it all soaked in, in those areas. Where things aren't watered, it all ran off and the sump that was dry yesterday is nearly full this morning.

I remember one time it was dry here.
when it finally started to rain, the first
few drops actually raised dust.
today I finally got around to inspecting the new grape vines.
they were way beyond needing pruning. one of the vines was almost a double plant. two trunks and extra branches. I trimmed all of the excess off.
I didn't dig up the garlic yet. that will be done soon.
