Most years I buy too many seeds, so if I limit myself to the instant gratification of buying them in the store it ends up cheaper in the long run. I can stand there for hours looking at seeds, and walk away with far too many. Everything looks delicious and pretty on a seed packet.Do both! (Not that you need any encouragement)

Thanks. I'm not a fan of zucchini, so maybe I wouldn't care for it either.Patty pan grows prolifically. It must be used while it's still quite small. It's a bit firmer than zucchini, and the skin toughens up very quickly. I like the flavor of it, but can't keep up with it, and prefer the shape of a regular zucchini/yellow squash b/c it's easier to slice and use in the majority of dishes.
I will have to try zucchini that way, sounds delicious.I love zucchini. Especially sliced length wise, dredged in italian dressing and grilled. The only reason I'm not fond of patty pan is b/c I can't pick it fast enough.
We don't need tons of zucchinis and certain other veggies, so we like to buy just a few of those already started from the garden store. But the veggies we want a lot of, we'll grow from seed, as well as plants you can't find seedlings of at the garden store (like somewhat hard-to-find varieties of veggies, and fancy pumpkins & squashes).I'm perusing the catalogs currently, but I might instead choose to buy in the stores this year, but you never know.
