They aren't going to crack as they dry?

They may, and it just gives them unique character. Not much I can do to prevent that, Besides,, these are for outdoor use. That is one reason I did not slice them thinner.

That and thicker ones can support heavier butts If they do crack I hope it isn't too far. I made several 1" maple wafers from 8" to 16" a couple of years ago, soaked them in some stuff that is supposed to replace the water as they dry so they don't crack. Only 2 of the 8" didn't crack.

Zone 5 update,,,, or should I call it DOWNDATE We are expecting FROST in next few days, so flowers are coming to an end.
These are planted from seeds, or some are perennial, so definitely want them next year.

These Cosmos are doing very well. Bloom all season, and despite the storm damage, still persisted.

Perennial. Don't ask the name.. I don't remember.

This also bloomed all season.

These are going indoors.

This is sweet basil. Going indoors, will see how much I can harvest it a little at a time during winter.

These impatiens served their time, now they are about to say ADIOS

These Geraniums are looking great. All are going into utility room for winter-over.

This pot must have gotten a lil too much fertilizer, and grew plenty of green, but lacking flowers now. Will do just fine next spring.

My container grown sorrel did EXCELLENT THIS YEAR. I grew 8 separate containers. Freezer is filled with individual baggies for our cooking use.

My rhubarb in its second year. I did not do great with the transplanting. Will try again next year.

My rose bushes are doing OK. these are the Knockout variety.

My FIRE BUSH is starting to change color now.

My yucca plant is doing well. This has been growing in this spot for many years. It is not trying to take over the flower bed at all. I kind of wish it spread some more. Had only one stalk bloom this year. Last year I had 2.

Sad to part with this plum tree. It will be getting cut down and burned. The Black Knot Fungus overcame it beyond control

I've never been able to stand the smell of geraniums, no way they would come in my house for the winter!

That is sad. Black Knot is nasty and my understanding is the only way to get rid of it on a tree is to cut off the infested branches and burn them. But it doesn't take much of that to end up with no tree at all.

It has been beautiful weather last few days, but before that we had a few nights with good frost. Down to about 28°F. I'm close to the lake, (Michigan) so others like my DD , had frost well before me. I'm like less then 15 miles as the crow flies. DD is about 40+ miles.
Many of my flowers have had it, but a few are still trying. My sorrel is surprisingly more tolerant, until a deep freeze. Knockout roses are still blooming.
All the pots that belong inside for over-wintering are inside.
Just wanted to share these 2 pix. of beautiful color. Took these late near dusk, so not the best focus.
Fire bush turned a nice red.

This below is a Japanese Maple. It is growing for 2 summers here. Definitely a SLOW GROWER. Turned a really nice red autumn color.

Saturday, I will be mulching the flower beds with shredded leaves, and grass clippings, for the winter. I first mulch the leaves, and then I run over a second time and bag them. This gives me a fine mixture, that does not act like straight leaves that don't absorb water, but somewhat run it off. This works really well in spring time, as the plants that sprout, do with less effort.
