Gardens, anyone? What are you growing this year?

I have most everything planted in the last week...

Yellow Sweet Corn
Okra
Peas
2 kinds of green beans
Carrots
Onions
Spring Onions
Tomatoes
Sunflowers
Zucchini
Pumpkins
Cantalope and Bell Peppers

You people are putting me to shame!!!! Years ago I had a small fenced in garden. Since then my life has changed drastically and I really have no time after working all day and then tending to all the animals. About 5 years ago I had someone doing some tree cutting etc. and I had him get rid of the garden. One of the reasons was as I said lack of time, not enough sun all day (yard is very shaded living in woods), so that was the end of the little garden. I can't tell you how much now I regret it.
I have been reading everyones post on here since the beginning of spring about gardening and our terrible economy and of course the price of food.
Well, in the center of my backyard I have a birdbath surrounded by fieldstone that I used to plant flowers in, since chickenhood no more flowers. I said to myself why not use that and put some wire fencing around it? It gets good hot sun most of the day. So yesterday I bought 6 Beefmaster tomato plants, brought up a big wheelbarrow of black gold from the horse manure pile and just got through putting them in the ground and the fence up. The birdbath is in the middle and as I water the tomatoes I can fill that at the same time!
Last year the native tomatoes were so expensive,I waited for friends to give me some, this year I will have my own.
I would say I have the smallest garden of you all....lol

What size defines a garden. Any place to put a plant is a garden, good luck with your tomatoes. I bet you'll have some whoppers.

Our 12 year old Grandson, Tanner. Was hit by a truck with 3 young men inside on Friday. He is in intensive care at the childrens hospital where we live. THe truck and the 3 young men did'nt stop. They ran a stop light, running from the police.

His spleen is bleeding and he has a bad concusion that they are monitoring him because of the blood inside his head.
He is concious now... that's a good thing. He has gravel from the road all in his skin. Many many cuts, and he has a fracture on his backbone.
I know you pray....please pray for him.

barney that is terrible. I do hope they find who hit him. He is young and hopefully will make a full strong recovery. My thought are with him.

I just found out that one of the guys in the truck is the Chief of Police's son in our town. I hope he understands the seriouness of this crime. I just learned that the driver that hit Tanner has been charged with 7 counts of Felony.
