gasping when excited- holding wings out- help!?!

Mykee- I'm so sorry to hear you are having trouble. This seems like a very frustrating problem. It certainly isn't clear cut. If anything, I hope this thread will have provided you with some insight on your roo.

Monique- I know!!! She's SO pretty, and I just look in her big dark eyes, and I want to help her so bad! I still haven't heard from the vet but hopefully soon.

Cloverleaf- Wow. Fertility issues are something to consider. Since I only have 5 (4 laying) and Ina was one of my regular, good sized egg layers, that does make a difference to me. They are pets, of course- but I do want enough eggs to provide for my family, and we only get 1-2 eggs a day lately between others going broody, and some being stressed (apparently one of my girls is very sensitive to stress- I think she'd stop laying if you moved the feeder over a foot...)
I want her to get better and to be at her best. If she's never going to lay another egg in her life... I just don't know.
I love all my girls, but sometimes I just want to start over and get all leghorns!

Okie doke- well... Ina has an appt to see the doctor Thursday.
He hasn't fixed her yet, but I think I'm in love with my vet. I had asked before (just for reference) if they treat chickens, and the receptionist said that they have seen a few. When I called to ask if they had any insight about Ina's problem- my favorite tech, Kim, told me they don't see chickens! But gave me another number of a doc who would. She then said if they can't help out, please call back- they'd be glad to try and help, it just isn't in their normal realm of practice. Well the other people didn't help- so when I called back she made me an appt. and offered to help me in through the side door so things would stay calmer for Ina. They are SO nice and accomadating. They have said many times that chickens/poultry isn't their area of expertise, so I will take any of their advice with a grain of salt, but really, there's no one I would feel more comfortable taking her too.

I'm a tech at an emergency clinic, and one of our Drs went out and bought some chicken health books when I started up with my birds so he'd be able to treat them a little more effectively if the need should ever arise! He's the best!!

I made the appt, and then over the next few days- she stopped breathing through her mouth and wheezing.

Chicken whisperer I am not- so I have no idea what the problem was. Maybe it was asthma? allergies? voo-doo?

I'm tellin' ya it was gapeworms,

and the wormer killed them, and now she's fine.

I had one just last week doing the same thing. I wormed her, now she's fine!

Update on the big blue baby- she's doing very well! Here's a vid of her snack time today- she's a lean mean green eating machine! lol!
