Gave Blood!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Wish i could donate. I hate that you have to wait a year after you get a tattoo to give blood again. They heal in like 2 months and you would notice if something was wrong before then. I use to donate regularly. Now i have 8 more months to go. We also have a joke around here. If you have a motocycle and someone asks if you are a organ donor usually always the next question is when did you decide that. most of us motorcyclist down here say it was the day we got our endorsment lol. which is usually always completly true. I know that is the day that i got mine.

Great job to all you donors and to all you rceipents so glad you got blood!!!!! My mom and sisters have also received blood, so its an extra incentive for me to give. My oldest sister had to have three pints after she had her baby. If three people hadn't given she might not be here to take care of her beautiful baby girl!!!

Tomorrow, wenedsay, I will one more time take my daughter
to Childrens Hospital to have her blood count checked.

I can see she's still in remission. I don't need the doctor to tell me
that.

But in her 11 years, she's yet to make it one whole school year without
a transfusion. Second grade was her worse year...three times that year.

At one point, I was active on another site when she got sick. They held
a blood drive for her, where people from various states donated blood
in her name.

Children's Hospital, to give her blood was $685.00 a unit, billed to me.
Those friends saved me some money.

You can donate your blood in another persons name.

I still carry a gift card in my billfold from many years ago. My cousin donated
his blood to me....I've not needed a refill in several years. Card is all worn out,
and I'm sure it's no good. But something I treasure.

***My daughter and I do not make normal red cells like most people. It has
a fancy name, but that's the result.

So...Once again, I thank each and every one of you that give blood.
With all my heart.

Spook

I donate about every 2 months when I am eligible. I am O- and CMV- so the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank has me on speed dial and calls me as soon as I am allowed to donate again. CMV is a virus which 50 to 80% of the people in the US have had (varies by region). Most people don't know that they have had this virus as it is usually mild. CMV- blood is often used for infants or immune compromised patients.

I enjoy giving blood as it is something good I can do without costing me anything except an hour or so every other month.

Could you please rephrase that? I would like for you to stick around for a while. Don't become a donor just yet. You may sign up to become one after your demise, but don't become one yet - we like you.

(I work in Trauma, we call severe head injuries organ donors. Sad, but true.

Kudos for you donating. I donate every chance I get, too. Kind of feels good in a bit of an ouchy way.
My oldest DD has recently started donating, too. My youngest DD is impatiently waiting until she can, too. I think we may have to go as a family bonding thing as soon as the youngest can go. lol

My dog has been a donor as well.

I've given up on giving blood. I used to, but it seemed 50% of the time I was turned away for low iron levels. One time it was so low they even joked they should give ME a transfusion right there and insisted I visit the doctor :hmm

Anyway, I take an iron supplement, eat iron rich foods, but still have borderline iron levels.

Same here, 0-, CMV-, they used to use mine for surgery on newborns.
I haven't donated in a while; I travel overseas too often, and they started rejecting me. I should go back and check if the rules have been updated.

Thanks all for the reminder.
