Gender ID help, please....UPDATE page 5

Baaaaaaaah! That's what I'm afraid of. The other two that I didn't include have a lot less spotting. If all 3 of those are boys then 5 out of 5 were boys. That would truly suck...

YOU MEAN I'M NOT THE ONLY 1 HATCHING EGGS WITH A ROOSTERBATOR?

Heck no. I hatched 3 button quail & 5 coturnix in that batch. So far, of the 3 button quail, 2 are confirmed male. 1 is undetermined as of now. Of the coturnix, if these 3 are male, then I have 5 males. That would be either 7 or 8 males out of 8 hatched...

That better not happen with the 20 that are in the bator!

The gender of the chick is determined before the eggs go in the incubator.

Conditions in an incubator might cause more chicks of one gender to die and more of the other to survive, though. I've seen claims of temperature differences or humidity differences favoring the survival of male or female chicks.

It cannot alter the gender, though. The genetic material inside the egg determines that.

Guess that young roo wasn't quite sure how to tell the difference either. Saw him making out with one of his brothers, not even a sister then yesterday...

YOU NEED TO REFER TO THE BASICS OF BEER SEXING....

" IF ITS ON TOP- ROO
IF ITS ON THE BOTTOM HEN OR LESSER AND UNFORTUNATE ROO
IF IT LAYS AN EGG= HEN"

ROFL! Well, I've been doing the beer sexing without the beer, I'm afraid. Can we do "hard cider" sexing instead? That might work...

I was kind of thinking along the lines of

If it's on top: Roo
If it crows: Roo.
If it lays an egg: Hen.

The whole color thing, well....blech. I can look at my older birds & tell with certainty. Of course with them all I have to do is look for whose feathers are torn up, too.

WHILE THERE ARE MANY SUBSTITUTES FOR THE "BEER" IN BEER SEXING ITS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THESE SUBSTITUTIONS MAY ALTER THE ACCURACY OF YOUR RESULTS

#1 is definitely male: No spots on breast PLUS you can see the blush on his face, though it isn't very dark
#2 and #3 are females, they do have a little spotting on their breasts and NO blush on their faces.
