I had a mama hen hatch a chick out in June. She does have mottle gene in her genetic make up. What I find stunning is her comb is actually part black. Has anyone ever researched melanizing, E+ and such attributes?

Thank you, her name is Bixby :)

Mottling can have that effect on Extended Black, she would have been all black beak and comb if it were not for mottling, the beak color would have stayed all black but comb would have turned red or dark red as she matured

For example, Mottled Java pullets
