I'm not a professional geocacher of any sort, but my family has done it a couple times. I don't know what a signature swag or whatever else you mentioned is

There is a geocache right across the street from us, and we check in with it often. Sometimes when we drive by we see somebody poking around there and we laugh. It is tricky and frustrating to find the first time but once you find it, it is obvious.
