German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix - your opinions please!

If you don't mind ALOT of hair around the yard and ALOT of barking give it a shot. We have 2 GPyrenees\\Anatolian Shepards and they're hairy and noisey at night but do their job. We stayed away from GS because of potential health and temperment issues and love our 2 knuckleheads.They can be stubborn to train,I don't recommend siblings like we did. Watch or read from the dog whisperer he's all about giving dogs that have issues a job.Bond them to their flock ASAP!

IMHO, I would not get that dog for a LGD. My husband drove to Alabama to get our female Pyrenees because at the time, we couldn't find any puppies we liked in the state of GA. I think it was a 6 hour drive one way. He got her on Christmas Eve and she was the best Christmas present I have ever gotten! She is the most amazing dog and I love her to pieces.

Thanks. I don't have a way to weigh her... but I definitely can't lift her.

I would guess she is about 100-120.

Ours are also really good with our Pom. Just have to keep an eye on Shilo with her,she's pawsy when she wants something. Don't want a squashed Pom,Pepper will put them in thier giant place though.

I haven't read every post, but I would JUMP at the chance of adopting that mix of PUPPY based on 1 thing - can you be reasonably sure you won't be facing hip/knee problems, of which both breeds are notorious? I had an awesome GSD, and I have a Pyr. The GSD was stellar around the chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, cats, etc. - and we didn't get all those critters till she was about 4 yrs old. I just trained her not to bother them (positive reinforcement), and it worked out. She was a 1 yr old apartment dog when we got her, so we had started from scratch. The Pry, on the other hand, we got at 9 weeks old, and ALMOST killed 2 hens, and did kill 1 young roo, when he was about 4 mos old, till he learned that was not an option (not-so-POSITIVE reinforcement).
Like I said, I would totally jump at the chance, but be vigilant with the training (make sure all who deal w/the pup are on the same page).
