German Shepherd had surgery Need your guys help warning gross pics

can you keep him crated? that would keep him from moving around so much and pulling the stitches out. A pair of mens sleep shorts can also help cover the stitches and keep them from getting caught on things.

Also, have you looked into care credit? not all vets will take it, but it's an idea.

Does a major newspaper out your way have a "Problem fixer" type columnist? If so they love to hear stories like yours and contact the vet (or business) involved. Usually they get a very good outcome because no one wants bad pr - they even go after utility companies, airlines etc. etc. Human interest stories draw ALOT OF INTEREST, in a a paper and many comments that follow.

Not taking sides but..... It is common for wounds over joints to come open. Also since it was a large mass in that area it put a lot of pressure on the skin and may have been impairing blood flow to the skin of that area leading to slower healing and more fragile skin. Probably not the vets fault it came open but a combo of several factors. Glad your dog had a family who cared enough to go the extra mile to get him healthy. Keep us updated on his progress:)

Im going to try a pair of shorts

My dog recently broke his jaw in half and when I took him to the emergency vet I saw many dogs in the waiting room with the cervical neck collars on.....they were not able to get to thier wounds and they did look as if they were more comfortable with them. One lady said her dog has had it on for over a month and it was much better than the cone. My dog's surgery was $2400.00 and all the follow up visits was included in that cost. It is ashame that there are vets out there that take advantage of pets owners feelings....I know how you are feeling you hurt when you dog hurts... sending you lots of hugs and puppy dog kisses for a speedy recovery

Be very careful about reclosing a open wound. Most of the time it is better to leave open and get something like granulex V and keep it treated until it heals. Once a wound has been opened if you do not have the abilty to clean it properly you can cause a infection the will kill. Sounds like you have a sorry vet. I have had dogs injured and had wounds reopen and my vet reclosed them at no charge. Some small wounds they wound just advice to let heal open. even a cut up to two inches but you have to keep it clean and treated.
