getting another parakeet, will they fight?

When you get your parakeet, just post pics of it in your thread so everyone can tell what it is. Do you have any idea what color you want or where you are going to buy it from?
I’m going to get it at PetSmart and the color I want is green, but I’ll take anything they have.
I just would prefer the green ones if they have any.

I’m getting mine at petco! I tried to get my first one from petsmart and the cages were gross and over crowded!! They had droppings in their food. But at petco they had a clean under crowded cage with clean dishes and fresh veggies! I just wanted to let you know lol ;) Hope I helped:oops:

Is this a big enough cage for two parakeets? :thumbsup

I never really see them with fresh veggies! I've only bought from PetSmart and they are usually clean. Maybe the ones in your location aren't.

Maybe not all parakeets will fight but some will. When I was a kid and we were moving, my parents gave our male parakeet to a family friend with a very dominant female parakeet. We found out later she killed him though I don't have any details.

I had a male and female that lived well together for 7 years......
One morning I got up, uncovered the cage, grabbed a cup of coffee, took a shower.....and found in that short time without a lot of noise she had maimed him severely.
She broke both his legs, removed his upper beak and broke one of his wings.
It was shocking, horrible and a very sad end for the little male.

I will never again cage them together.

Next to each other but separated by wire and a few inches of space seems so much safer.
