Getting my first chickens today!

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! I have been checking out the site for aboht a week and found it to be a great resource! Mu chickens were all born in May and they are just beautiful. We have one plymouth barred rock a buff brahma and an australorp. I only got to see them for a few minutes when they came home because it was already dark and I didn't want to shine any light on them. Can't wait to wake up and see them tomorrow!

You're welcome. I've had all of your breeds at one time or another and you have a very nice mixed flock. The first breed I ever had were Brahmas (about 50 years ago), and they were gentle giants. Australorps are my favorite breed. I've raised them for years and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets out of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock.

My hens made it through the night. We were a little nervous about the cold but they did well. Now they are figuring out the ramp to get down into the run since they didn't have a ramp at the farm.

If they're leery of the ramp drop a bit of scratch on the ramp .. that'll get 'em going!

Good luck! If you have any questions im availible always!I even have a page on Treats!

Check em out please!~

Can you post some pics of your coop/run both inside and out? I'm kinda thinking they are crowded but can't be really sure from those pics....

I will have better pictures tomorrow. One another note, we have an egg! But the hens still don't like the ramp. We put them in the run hoping it would be easier for them to go up but nothing.

Did you try my suggestion of sprinkling either scratch or black sunflower seeds on the ramp?
