Getting Pekin Ducks. I have questions?!

They are adorable! And yes they do look like they are going through a molt. They will be plump and silky in no time! Give them treats every day and they will start getting really friendly. My Pekin is a porker and will start running to me when she knows I have treats. She always is first lol.

I bet you do have a male. That would be perfect if you have 1 male to 4 females. The crest is so precious.

Also, you should be getting an egg a day really soon if they aren’t already laying. My Pekin will lay a double yolker every other day and they are huge.

Awwww!! That makes me feel so much better!! I sat outside with them ALL day just so they were comfortable with my presence. I just want them to love me!! Haha!! I really really hope I have at least one male! I’m worried bc I don’t see any curls!

You're doing a good thing. They do look a bit rough. You can give them a much better life. The one with the bad wing has 'angel wing'. Do an on site search for more information. They can't get out but be aware many predators can easily climb, jump or fly over that fence.

Oooh!! I will look that up thank you!! Yes, I have had problems with hawks and raccoons around here. I’m home most of the day. But at night they will for sure be in the coop!! Part of their run has an overhang. So half of it is covered and half isn’t. I was thinking about using twine and crisscross it between the poles on the open part of the run to deter hawks. Spring is the worst time with predators for us!
I think my turkey have been helping a little with that though too!

Awe, they are so happy with the water! One of my new adopted ducks has a similar wing to yours, but it really doesn't seem to bother her. I never really understood the quack vs rasp thing until I tried it with my own ducks, of course the first 2 I picked up were dead silent and as soon as I put them down all together they made loads of noise but I couldn't figure out which noise came from which duck! It looks like you probably have mostly girls so hopefully your ratio works out!

I know I really hope so!!

That is to funny!! Do you have pics of your ducks?
Someone else commented my duck with the weird wing night have angel wing. I’m about to look it up!

I agree it does look like angel wing. It’s when their feathers on their wings start to come in too fast. The cartilage is too weak for the feathers and so they start to flop or fall away from the body. And if not corrected, it is permanent. It doesn’t really effect domestic birds a lot other than looking odd. They still lead happy lives.

Oops... forgot this... you can see the duck on the right, she can't tuck that wing totally flat against her body.

The owner sent me pictures and I was wondering if anyone can tell if they are male or female? The owner says he’s not sure. Also it looks like they have been kept in an off the ground cage. I will be keeping them in a fenced in area with cattle fencing and they will have a 4x4 coop. I’ve read pekins cannot fly but I was wondering if I should cover my run area (fence is 4 1/2ish Feet High)
Thanks Everyone!!
Yes cover it. I have 7 Pekin ducks. Males have a curl in their tail features. Females are smaller in size. How old are they? Look up on Google how to tell them apart. One has a longer bill the other has a shorter. Females quack males sound like they are horse (scratchy throat). There are many many members that have been so much help for me and a lot of them have a ton of experience with ducks. I put my ducks in at night, if it's not to cold out I let them out during the day.
