The cinders are to keep dogs from digging under. On top will be a 2 x 2. The GI sheet will hang down an inch and up 11 inches. Another 2x2 will be supporting the top of the sheet. Above that will be 6 feet of plastic chicken wire.

Perfect just as I figured OZ E.... what dogs???????

We have two " free range " dogs and my father in law has some more. Between them they guard the place and alert us of any fence jumpers looking for a chicken. They have never eaten a chook that I have seen but there may be temptation with all those birds in a coop. I am just covering all bases.

I will post pics of our sweet dogs along with the progressing coop tomorrow morning our time. Mrs Ozexpat is at school. She took the laptop with her.

perhaps the next endeavor we can have you drive to PA and get some wonderful English Springer Spaniels and smuggle oooopss snuggle them out the country!!

I used to have a house near Allegheny national forest. I drove from los angeles to Warren PA half a dozen times with my trailer and a crew of workers to rennovate it. The drive is probably easier than getting a pup in.to do it the right way it costs more than a human for its airfare.

I am anxious to see the results of your hatch! This is a very cool adventure and sounds like you will be making a huge impact on the local egg production! It is always neat to learn about different ways of life and how people adapt, but I can not imaging being able to experience it as you have!!! This is very neat thank you for sharing it with us!

The coop roof is 75% complete but we ran out if thatching. Another 500 pieces will be delivered at dawn. The delivery tricycle does not have registration. The guys are harvesting bamboo for the flooring. It will be split into slats then skinned. It will make a nice cool floor elevated about 3 feet off the ground. The area under it will be fenced as a shaded shelter as part of the run.

All the lumber comes from culled coconut trees. The bamboo is from the creek next door. We do not have nipa palm do I buy it for 8 cents a sheet. There will be 750 sheets on the roof. 60 hollow blocks cost 15 dollars. The polyester chicken wire is the most expensive part. I could have had patrice made from bamboo but in that use, it is less durable.

You have done many things young man!!  ok now I will say "Holy ****" what havent you done yet??? GOOD FOR YOU!!  Some sounds so tiresome!! wherever do  you get your energy!

I have been blessed by encouraging parents that allowed me to dream and the most amazing wife that allows me to live my dreams. She believes I can do anything so I am not afraid to try. Her patience has kept us together. Her enthusiasm for adventure surpasses mine. If I propose another hair brain idea, she says : go for it!
