Volcano?! :O

Yes. Its name is Mt Kanlaon. Its active but has not erupted in many years. There are a few volcanos in the North of the island that puff steam and ash every now and then.

We have earthquakes, typhoons (hurricanes) and volcanos. We are protected from tsunamis though. Oh...... and snow is unheard of.

The worst that happens here is blizzards and very high winds... There are no volcanoes, definitely no earthquakes or tornadoes EVER. It is very cold for a lot of the year and it sucks. :( Especially if you love growing things. (My room is mostly plants and fish tanks. lol)

So, we are all aware you're in a tropical paradise....did you HAVE to rub it in for those of us stuck in the depths of winter?! Really?
And I believe that you've actually built a 1/2 chicken coop and 1/2 Bed&Breakfast for all us chicken addicts who are STUCK IN THE SNOW.
What's your rate going to be?! I'm pretty certain you could rent it out very easily for most of the year - and we'll all bring hatching eggs in golf bags too!

Coop is fantastic. You and Bernie did an incredible build in a very short time frame. Especially knowing you had two little 'helpers' (i.e. kiddos) to keep you distracted. As for how many chickens you have total, until you know how many cockerals are involved, each one is precious. Then, about 6wks-10wks old, those little cockerals aren't so cute as keepers anymore...but they're cute for drumsticks!

Hey Mrs. Oz! Thanks for sharing your story and including some pictures of the successful hatches! I've got 6 in the bator now with just 6 more days to go until my own hatch date. It's good to be inspired by pictures of fluffy chicks!

I 'll take a few moments of sheer terror than months of frozen toes any time. The only thing not good about the lack of four seasons is stonefruit. I reckon Mrs Oz would just about kill for a peach like the one we had a few years back on route 6 in PA.

i don't know if we can grow peaches where I live... There are only two months of truly warm weather: the other months are transitions from winter like an eternity long spring time and short fall. :( And the summer weather is pretty cool. Sometimes just a breeze from the ocean can make you shiver, even if there is not a cloud in the sky. Even if the weather is bad, I still like it here because there are no dangers- the only one being eventually eroded away by the sea or a random tsunami (don't think we'd ever had one of those.) The only vicious or even large animals we have are coyotes or maybe a few wolves. No bears, moose, deer, wild cats, or any other kind of big predator/animal.

Good place for chickens!
