Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

More Bresse coming your way. You need to get those Froggy eggs hatched raised and bred. I want the children.
one of our britt hens became egg bound & was found dead in the nest box :(
but we have about 6 pullets getting some size to them to take her place
should be laying by Sept.

we also lost 7 buff pullets to the heat
they were up in one of our broody hen boxes & it looks to have gotten too hot in the coop for em
we didn't have that box last year so we didn't know
the strange things is the windows were open on the coop
i guess i'll add another window !
or maybe 2 more

25% of our jumbo 4 deck brooder is up & running
that # will climb to 50% once i build a couple more brooder doors
(should hold up to 200 peeps when finished)

thanks OZ & take care buddy

I low balled a 18 white + 6 black Bresse Eggs and combined shipping - they are on their way to Wolfesboro. I dont have room in my bator so I diverted them to you. I hope that is OK??

Back on BYC, phew...fire is not our friend out here!! Been rough last few days...but my friends fared well even having to be evacuated.

Very Nice! how did the bantam cochin and BA's do? I will have more of all for you. just give me a heads up when to start collecting eggs for your next trip. I will hopefully have some seperate pens for the creme legbars and salmon favs, though the sf are having a rough time of it with the heat. just hatched 4 more blues so...I'm thinking I will let the blues have the pen and coop the CLs and SFs. I will be breeding my white rocks to a dark cornish roo, so I will put aside some eggs from them for you as well. Other than that, I'll be happy to start collecting eggs from all my layers hopefully next month. Should have them ready for your labor day trip.

was taking a pic of the new babies when I noticed this on the photo...I miss her everyday!
She was an amazing person & the best Mom ever!
you never know where they show up to check on you.

Hey OZ, I was parusing the internet as usual..... and looking for the manufacturer of that egg packing foam. Came across another supplier

http://southernfarmhatchery.com/Egg-Shipping-Foam.php

They have all sizes listed from quail to goose.

Still looking for a manufacturer of the stuff.... wanna pick his brain if he will talk to me.

the different sizes are nice. the 12x12 is limiting in a golf bag. thanks

for a small amount of eggs i didn't think that pipe insulation did all that bad
but i wouldn't want to have to wrap 200 eggs like that ....too much packing time
but if you only had a few

time to hit the rack

Just wondering - is it the heat or the combination of heat and humidity that kills the chooks?
On Black Saturday it was 47 degrees here with flames licking the back sides of the chook houses and I didnt lose a single one.
Of course relative humidity that day was about zero.

Cheers
