Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Sounds like a pretty good start with deck of cards being stacked against you! I only have my tiny backyard flock of 6 since we still live in town but one day hopefully I be able to get to do my own bigger chicken flock and get more diversity.

renee has awesome birds.

large fowl chocolate orps are as rare as rocking horse poop

at 15 - 20 bucks an egg and my 15% hatch rate they are out of my league.

Rocking horse poop HA, I have a bunch, other wise known as saw dust

All joking aside your doing great, keep the chin up.

Some of a PM I have been having:

Hi buddy, as planned i was taking 78 eggs with me from london gatwick to pakistan via dubai, they didnt let me carry eggs in personal baggage, worst part when i requested not to xray my bag they refused and said it will be and infact twice once at dubai too, im very dishearted in the plane right now.... Wht to do, wht to expect... Eagerly waiting for your reply.
Cheers,

I researched before I left USA to make sure the TSA here would allow it.

having a non direct flight is fraught with problems.

My studies tell me xraying will make little difference. Go ahead and incubate them.

As the eggs were subjected to flights, be happy with a 20% hatch rate.

hey buddy i did, not a great result 14 were fertile but only 8 hatched, wht to do next time?

Another poor soul trying to get the flock out of here.

I bought 8 red jungle fowl on a whim on a low ball bid on ebay. They will ship for my next trip

I am not sure how much Gallus Gallus they are versus Gallus Domesticus but I had this need to take them home.

Mrs Oz has spent many a day trying to snare these birds when she was spending a semester with the aboriginals of Luzon.

I guess I have the next hatch's whimsical buy.

Hatch update

3 Breda Fowl, 2 Andalusion 1 Lemon Cuckoo Orp hatched.

1 newly pipped Andalusion.

Day 20 almost over. Things are moving as planned.
you can put a lemon with a buff if that is all you have OZ
you will get buff, lemon, & lemon cuckoo

yeah. hopefully your hatchees are pullets and the lco is a roo. I have a gut feeling we arent done with them, I like to see a group hatch within 24 hrs of each other but its only been 8 hrs since the first LCO hatched. The Andalusians are still going and hatched earlier. A couple more of the LCO would be awesome. It could be interesting to cross LCO with lavender orps too.

Then there is the Ameracaunas and possibly wellies and a single silkie.

We are drilling a 1/8th hole in any chirping eggs this time around as soon as they chirp. So far we have had 100% of chirpers hatch within 6 hours of giving them an air hole. Last hatch I lost too many that suffocated before they could get the egg open on their own.
