I have 8 ~two week old chicks. I bought 4 of them on 5/28 from a feed store that gets their chicks from Ideal. The other 4 were bought on 5/30 from another feed store that also gets chicks from Ideal. I am guessing they were 3 days old when I got them. Most of them weigh between 45-50g. There is one white one that weighs 72g. There is one black on that weighs 70g, but is visually smaller than the white.

Is that much difference normal at this age? Or are these two outliers likely males? I am planning on DNA sexing them next week. I can only have four chickens and no roosters which is why I am getting them sexed.

Also, the 2nd largest (the black chick) has an odd clump of feathers on his back. I gave him a bath to check for injury but didn't see anything. Two days later its back. Still no injuries that I can see. Are the other birds picking on him? He had an eye issue over the weekend that seems to have been something stuck in his eye as it has cleared up.

On the size, no that’s normal. That’s how big our two silkies were. We had 8 others in different breeds and these silkies were way bigger. The back definitely looks like the bird is being picked on. The eye issue is most likely the same thing.

There are no missing feathers or injuries that we can see, just feathers sticking together. Ill keep an eye out for further signs, as its not possible to separate them at this time.

He had a bit of something hard stuck in his lower eyelid. Once we got it out he got better. Its been two days and it looks clear.

The first picture is before we cleaned him up. The second, though a little blurry, shows the goop and the thing in his eye. I don't have a pic of the recovered eye but it looks good.
