Gil's World - Post Apocalypse

Add a human lock to your coop if you're even questioning your ducks safety. I wish I did that but I couldn't have predicted this situation because I live in such a safe, quiet area. It was just some bored teens that had nothing better to do. Gil means the world to me!
Thanks!
My roosters would scare someone before they tried :gigthey don't allow strangers near my ducks!

Lucky!!!!! My dog used to be the alarm system but he had to be put down a little over a year ago. He was a ball of cuddles but if you couldn't see him and he saw you, he sounded SCARY! He was also 50 pounds but had the bark of a 110 pound dog.
I guess your chickens have good scary voices as well!!!!! I also guess I need a video alarm system now!

So her mom is a fawn and white runner but we lost track of the dad. My friends duck laid the egg, we got her egg and hatched her out. Her dad could have been literally anything because she has MANY ducks. We think either Khaki or Buff. Some people have guessed saxony. Add a guess to the list!! She's super friendly but that might have been a result of her environment growing up rather than breed.
She is gorgeous and very unique. I love runners and I hope one day to get some.

I have jersey giants that are intimidating to people who don't know them. They kick really hard and have big beaks!

I'm sorry about your dog :hugsAn alarm system is always good. Maybe a goose will help.

My rooster is the opposite, when my drake would attack people in his maturing stage, my rooster would attack him anytime he attacked me, I still don't understand why.. maybe seeing me as a flock member or afraid he was gonna attack a chicken? My mallard though is a different story, if she is in the water bucket and the chickens want to get a drink in HER water bucket she'd bite them, they were all scared of her even though they're all bigger than her even the chickens being only 3 months old and my mallard being 6 months! :lau

Did you ever get the ducks back.. found them.. how do you know they were teens? Poor ducks, how did Gil manage and escape?
Never got them back because we couldn't prove who took them. The neighbor at the end of the street had a doorbell cam that recorded a younger person in all black walking down the street and they stop at the top of my property. The camera cuts out of view there so we couldn't see them walking down my property or leaving. They left down the other end of the street so they avoided face contact with the one camera that got them. It could have easily been a neighbor that complained about ducks, but they had a distinct slender body shape that I couldn't pin to any of my neighbors. We also are led to that conclusion because it happened the night after it was publicly posted that they lived in the backyard. The neighbors are older and don't have social media. Plus some idiot kid stole a duck from a neighboring property about 5 years ago. I didn't know of this situation until after my ducklings were gone. Gil didn't literally escape. She lives indoors full time so luckily she was safe. The ducklings were living outdoors full time and we were raising them as Gil's friends so Gil could be outside with them during the day time while the weather was good. The dog and I checked on the ducklings very late the night they were taken and they were fine. By morning there was literally no trace. They had a hardware cloth, predator proof pen. It had multiple latches and was completely covered. No sign of forced entry, struggle or damage. Had to be a human that walked in, closed it and left.

I wish I had gotten closure but nothing ever turned up except a short clip of an unidentified person that we couldn't do anything with.

Sorry this happened again, I just looked at where your from and you're in PA as well, this is upsetting. Good thing i'm an hour away from Hatboro but you never know. I feel my neighbors would complain to since my guineas make such a loud noise is echoes through the woods. My rooster is surprisingly very quiet, none of my neighbors can here him, but I have 3 others roosters I have that haven't started crowing yet so i'll have to wait and see... When my 2 pekins were still alive they would go to the neighbors creek (For some odd reason, we had a swamp a pond and a creek for them lol) and they would just watch them, these guys were so beautiful and clean. I hope you find them :hugs
