Hi What is the Genetics behind the Ginger Red color ? How is it made and what other colors can it be bred to to get more Ginger reds? ( other than Silver Ginger)

Thanks

Ginger red color is exprecion of Db (Dark Brown) gene over e+;or eb.In USA only breeds with this color are Ginger Red Games and Buff Catalana.Db gene is a part of the make-up of other breeds-Campine,Golden Laced Polish,Sebright,

Black Breasted Red or Dark Brown with the Db gene ( the gene is to make a black-tailed white, buff or red in the male while at the same time not removing all the stippling from the body of the female.)

There is a theory that allows for true-breeding Ginger Reds. It assumes that there is a columbian-like gene in Brown Reds, which produces the hackle striping in both sexes, and which when mated to Black Breasted Reds will produce some true-breeding Ginger Reds.

I don't remember who to give credit to for this chart, but somebody on BYC spelled BBR combos out really well. I saved the chart for future use, and I've referred to it countless times!

I can't read it very well here, but if you save it and enlarge it, you might be able to use it. Ginger red is the first sprout off of the upper right corner of the central BBR square.

Its Chris09 that credit should be given to for posting all those charts for us. I have also found that chart and have been talking to Chris via PM sense I posted this and I think I have got it figured now.

Thanks

The Db kind of red ginger could breed true. There is a not-true-breeding mimic based on the columbian gene. These have to be heterozygous (not pure) to allow black pattern on the hens' backs.

Anything crossed to another color is not true breeding anymore...
