Very cute!!! They grow so fast! It’s our first time with chickens! We have 4 more barred rocks in the brooder. They are 3 weeks old. They are to replace Easter the Easter egger. We can’t keep a roo. My daughter was so sad. Chicken math already took place lol!

My vote is hen. I have an 18 week that had comb as big as that at 12 weeks.

Luckily he has a home when he is all grown up. Once he starts crowing he will have to go. We are too close to the neighbors and can’t keep him.

Fast to grow, slow to mature.
Nothing difficult about this breed.
It's a cockerel. I can see male feathers at the base of the tail coming in. You just have to zoom the pic in.


I've had a couple of this breed and I'm not a fan. My roo was NOT a chill guy. And the hens were flighty.

Cockerel, I agree with @AlleysChicks . Sometimes buffs can be that way, I find them friendlier than most breeds but all chickens are different. Comb and wattles huge for a chick that age.

I'm thinking it's a cockerel. I have two BO cockerels, and one of them was super slow to finally get male saddle feathers. But at 12 weeks he had a big comb and wattles like this one does... so I'm leaning more towards cockerel.

I'm in the cockerel boat on this one. At 11-12 weeks old, a set of comb and wattles that big and bright, can only be a cockerel.
Saddle feathers *start* growing in at 12 weeks or so... so in the next couple of weeks keep your eye out for those pointed male feathers to start popping out at the base of the tail.
