GMO's and Factory Farming...

You forgot they also take care of their neighbors and community - which is what the folks I know do. They don't answer to anyone but themselves, and their bottom line, and for over 100 years, they've continued that tradition. The particular ones I know VERY well are some of the larger milk producers in the state. They are good people, and I will always stand up for them, just as they have always been right there to help anyone in need.

CAFO is a term, a legal designation. Michigan State University is a registered CAFO. It's also one of the largest ag universities in the country, and one of the first. Green Meadows is a VERY large dairy, a CAFO, and always open to visitors, and is extremely well run, and a huge supporter of 4H and FFA.

I've set foot on more than a few CAFO's. I've not seen the rampant horror that most claim. Of course, I recently found out that folks think the "stuff" filling the huge three sided storage areas, and covered with tarp and tractor tires is manure.

Really?

Bad things happen to wizards who mess with nature Harry...

Seriously though, x2 on the NO to GMO and for pete's sake label it so I don't have to just avoid ALL corn, ALL soy, ALL salmon just to be on the safe side... don't think that's asking too much.

Also x2 on Omnivore's Dilemma and Food Inc. have both. Just got in Defense of Food today, have Food Rules en route... can't wait to find more Pollan books, and Salatin too... would LOVE to be able to take a tour.

Katy I am going to agree with you here, interest groups are not the best source of information and are never acceptable when writing a paper. It is ok to express your views in an academic paper but you had better back it up with lots of facts and case studies from credible sources. Interest groups and corporations do not fall into this category as on both sides they are pushing their own agenda, so that means Monsanto, Green Peace and even Cattlemens are not reliable sources for papers. If you want to write something that will stand up to scrutiny then you had better have good sources, peer reviewed academic journals, and site them well throughout your work. Something that sites studies conducted by Cornell, UC Davis, and Iowa State will have more clout than a few random facts found on the internet. Now obvious I haven't seen any ones papers and they could utilize very good sources, I am just pointing out that the source of your information does matter.

My Senior year of college (last year) I had a professor inform me that the only reason I got an A on my term paper and not an F as he wanted to give me was that I had so well supported my thesis with quality sources. Rather than say what I knew the professor wanted to hear I argued my point. It can be done you just have to do it well!

7 pages later, can we get an answer to this?

I've worked in swine industry, at no time are hogs boiled alive in slaughter houses. They have animal rights inspectors on the premises. We in Ag are not some sadistic monsters.

Food, Inc is based on the fact that field corn has no nutrient value and can't be eaten. That is so wrong.

Want, LOVE organic, more power to you. It costs more, pay for it, ENJOY.

Statement on France is completely wrong as their unemployment rate (with small government paid workers) is 30%. Try again.

We RATS will continue to eat.

As was stated in another thread by an "organic person" is that organic is NOT chemical free just approved chemicals.

Hey GMO seedcorn....

SOOOO... You are saying field corn can be eaten by humans without heavy chemical processing?????
smile.png
Please demonstrate for us where and how humans eat field corn without it being processed by chemicals such as sulfuric acid.....
sickbyc.gif
.Or are you saying cattle should eat it....

No response to my facts about France... "I have been waiting 7 pages"

Ya ya I realize the rat comment was in bad taste.. OK I am human and make mistakes... DO you ever admit to being wrong?

Unemployment at 30% in France???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Where on earth do you get 30% from.. FOX news...................

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_unemployment_rate

Many sources say Frances unemployment is around 10%.. (More small farmers making a meager living..

) Do you know anything about France's Ag?
You do know ours is higher!!!! ...Try 28% in the USA !!!!!...

. (The official numbers are low low low, simply eliminate unemployment benefits and reduce the number.. We hide the poop job in the American diaper pretty well...)

ON

http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds...ployment+rate#met=unemployment_rate&tdim=true USA unemployment rate is 9.3%. When I was in France, it was 30%. Today 9.8% by going to a 3-4 day work week.

Watch Food Network, they brag on polenta, corn meal mush. Guess what that is? Field CORN. Breeders bred corn varieties that are higher in amino acids so humans could survive on corn only, BUT the public wouldn't eat it because it was light yellow in color.

7 pages?, I'm sorry I don't live for this website, DD and I ate supper. Where I went to school, it wasn't 7 pages but what do I know, I'm just a stupid ag worker taken in by the man, drunk on GMO's. Thank you for dealing w/facts and not resorting to name calling or bothering to answer the questions posed. Please do not change my posts to suit your agenda. Go ahead and respond but my posts do not need to be changed.

Wow..
I am not sure what to say...

Try planting a big row of something the bugs like more than your crops. (That is what is done by big organic lettuce producers, one in seven beds is for the bugs..)

Animal GMOs are Illegal for human consumption last i checked.

Check again.......I think they passed the Frankin Salmon, if you consider a fish, a animal. Or are you just talking about the USA?
Japan has a pig crossed with spinach and then there is the Frankin pig from Guelph. I think they call it the Enviropig.

Study done on GMO corn and mammals
http://www.biolsci.org/v05p0706.pdf

You forgot the mouse crossed with the human.
