I’m in NW Alabama and just started seeing them this past week, the backs of my arms are all swollen from bites. I don’t have swarms, but I will be spraying tomorrow so I don’t get any swarms! This entire thread is so disturbing. I first read about these buffalo gnats last week when The Chicken Chick posted an article about them. However, I didn’t seem to worry much because it said they like cooler temps and to be near running water. I have neither here in Alabama. But now I see these things are much farther south than I am so now I’m worried.
Why are they here and where did they come from? I haven’t seen them...yet and I hope I don’t. I am so sorry for everyone’s losses.
Oh dear lawd! Keep those things west of I65...PLEASE!!!!I’m in NW Alabama and just started seeing them this past week, the backs of my arms are all swollen from bites. I don’t have swarms, but I will be spraying tomorrow so I don’t get any swarms!
So glad they have let up. We had gnats so bad our horse was loosing his hair over it. He was truly miserable and going bald! Nothing we tried kept them away- sheets, spays and shampoos with permethrin... I hate poisoning our pets with chemicals. Other horses, animals and people were very bothered too but they were relentless on poor Cisco and we had to solve this problem. This spay put a shield around our guy and he was able to get some relief till their season ended. I've sense started using it on our dogs and me too for mosquito repellent. I love the smell
@mixedUPturk Thank you so much for this thread!!

I'm not sure if this will help keep the gnats away but I often dust my cage with diatomaceous earth - the edible kind. It will kill insects and it is totally natural. If the animals eat it, it would kill any parasites that they have living in side of them too. In fact, I have seen it take down flying pests really fast. I bought a bag on Amazon and it comes with a plastic dusting device. It also helps keep the cage dry and smelling good.
There is not one mention in this video, or posts I have seen, about a before & after fecal test by a vet to prove the initial presence and post "worming" absence of worms. Because a worm is passed does NOT mean the animal was wormed! All animals with worms pass a few here and there; sometimes one, sometimes several. Food grade DE is not without risk. Using it without gathering any actual proofs is magical thinking, and perhaps unfair to our animals.Just because some blogger says something doesn't make it true.
No.Will the Vanillaroma trees keep away fruit flies?
