And all this happened today with the vets office closed? Maggots hatching already?

When did your dog chew up the goats?

From what I've been reading, flies can hatch anywhere from 8 to 20 hours after the eggs are laid.

SarahFair, sorry about your goats. Have you tried flushing out with saline solution followed by betadine?

Sounds like she's in shock and pain. Clean up the wounds with epsom salts and water or if you have iodine/betadine solution. Give her a shot of penicillin or an antibiotic if you have some, even some for people. Use vasaline to try and take off the fly eggs. Bandage her wounds the best you can. Do any of your friends have a good livestock vet that could call them out for you? Ours is very kind and reasonable, cheap actually. She may just need pain management and stitches........ I had a horse colic on a Sunday night in bitter rain of winter. Cost me $130. Good vet.

I hope you have good aim and know what you're doing. No offense, but broke as I am (college student + kids and living on one income), I'm sure I could scratch up 100 bucks or whatever to take responsibility for what MY ANIMAL did to another, even if that meant euthanasia at the VET.

You of course, can do what you like. Just make sure you don't make it worse by not giving your "friend" a clean, quick death.

As other posters say, I'm jumping down from my soapbox. What a crappy situation...for all involved...but mostly for that poor goat who got pulled the short straw more than once, in my reckoning.

I was away from yesterday afternoon till tonight. I was suppose to be back early today but my grandmothers birthday party ran later than I thought it would

First off, sorry to read this

Now, if it were my goat, I would do everything I could to fully clean out the maggots. If they aren't taken care of, nothing will heal. Like others have stated rinse with a saline solution, or simply water and get those yucky things out. Call a vet. Ours vets will typically give us excellent advice right over the phone if it's something we can handle on our own or can keep under control until morning. Also sounds like she is in shock. You'll want to keep her warm and find something to give her for the pain. I'm sure part of the shock is due to the attack, but she's gotta be hurting. If she is in shock she might be prone to drinking a lot of fluids (don't really know why, just know from experience). Please really call a vet though. Like I said, ours give excellent advice over the phone. I know paying for an emergency visit probably isn't something you want to do, but I don't know if your goats are pets or just part of the farm, but for me, putting the money out would be worth it. I'm not putting you down in any way if you just really can't have the vet come out, but do call them (have I stressed that enough

). Good luck with your goat, I hope you're able to help her.

I am not gonna condemn you for that. Many of us with animals are broke BECAUSE of them. If you have peroxide and a good flame and some thread you can sterilize, could you sew it up? I am a broke animal owner.

And that dog needs to go. Call your local tow yards and see if they need a dog. That is where our aggresive ones went.

ETA: I am sorry Sarah. That is so sad. I can imagine you wanna kill that dog yourself. I felt the same way when my former dogs killed all my ducks.
