I mean Im mad at her but Im more mad at myself for leaving her back there. We had to go out of town last weekend and left her chained with no problem all weekend (we had someone check on them everyday). This time she just streatched her leather collar enough to slip out

So very sorry you lost her................I would now use this time to find a good vet, get acquainted with him/her and have them on speed dial. Not all vets are extremely $$$, if you look hard enough you can find a good ole farm vet. Find out what their emergency trip charge is, what payments they take. My vet doesn't take charge cards..... but when I asked how would I pay for something major, he simply said he knows where I live.

I'm sure that others sarcasm wasn't meant to sound like that - it's not something you need to deal with when you have an animal suffering.

Thanks guys. I've had her for close to three years now. We've thought about finding her a new home and while I know there are awesome homes out there I fear she might end up on a chain for the rest of her life or go to an abusive home. We love her too much to let anything like that happen to her. We are working to get a goat pen up where the dogs will never be allowed. Then today we decided to put up a large run inside the fence we already so they have to go through three fences to get to anything (even though they have never questioned the one we have now.

Perhaps you can make a small pen for the dogs with wire buried into the ground and a top.

We put our dog inside the house when we go anywhere (in a crate), but she grew up here with all the critters and has never tried to hurt them - we still never leave her alone with them, you just never know what they'll do when they're bored.

Sounds like your dog is lucky to have you. It's nice to hear you're working on forgiving her and troubleshooting the future! Your story makes me evaluate what kind of steward I've been for my pets. There are a few lessons I can learn from your aweful experience. Thankyou.

Sarah,
For future reference Dr Frost at Bethlehem Vet clinic does large and small animals. To save money I once took a sick goat to his office and he met me there. Price wise he is very reasonable for all that he does.
