Goats!!!

I have always provided baking soda free choice next to their goat mineral. So maybe it's been the baking soda that helps and not the diet. Years ago I had a dog with bladder stones, after surgery she had to take pills to alter her urine ph for the rest of her life, I believe it was an alkaline, which baking soda is, so maybe there's something to it.

Goats have a highly acidic rumen which digests roughage, as they chew their cud they produce saliva which helps to cut some of the acid, when feeding stuff like grain which doesn't get rechewed, the rumen can become too acidic which leads to all the things like bloat, acidosis, and over eaters.

So the addition of baking soda allows the goat the ability to regulate it's own acidity, similar to us taking antacids. So to me adding an acid to the diet I am unsure what that does but makes an acid environment more acidic. But I don't know everything, there might be a reason for it. I have been wondering what exactly causes it and why mine don't get them. It's possible the baking soda makes mine drink more water. Do you feed a mineral made for goats?

I hope he passed it, that would be great. It can be hard to actually see a goat pee unless you have hours to watch them.

I do have hours to watch them Its not Ideal. There a lot of other things going on with are farm too they I need to take care of but usually I spend 2 hours MAX. I have that goat mineral available for them at all times along with a salt block. I wish he could just be healed already. How much longer would you estimate he has left I know you guys are not vets but I just want a second estimate.

My husband had stones, they gave him a week to pass them before they intervened, he always had pain during it. If your goat is acting better that's a good sign, goats don't tolerate pain well so he will let you know. I think a week of looking better would make me think he's better, after two weeks I would believe that the current stones are gone. Watch that his belly doesn't become slushy watery, that would indicate that his bladder ruptured. Good luck for your goat.

His belly does look like water is jumping in it.... OH NO DID HIS BLADDER RUPTURE!!! Here is a photo of him you can see his stomach looks like it is very full.I will talk to the vet about it.

If you touch the underside of his belly, that's where it would feel like a waterbed, the sides always slog around, I'm sorry I should have been more specific.

That's good, did the vet come back out to check him or are you waiting? Let's hope he he keeps getting better. Poor little guy.

He sadly passed away before the vet could make it. He had one of the most peaceful deaths. He was loved by goats and family when he passed.
