Going out to feed/maintain/..slip on shoe recommendations?

Chickens peck without conscious thought and their beaks are sharp. Freckles can even look like a treat to them, so I always protect my legs when I'm around them. I read something recently about an elderly woman whose chicken pecked at a vericose vein and she bled to death before she could get help.

I had a chicken take the scab off an ant-bite once -- just like picking a bug out of a crack in a log!

Very unlikely a surface vein would lead to a bleed out w/o an underlying condition (hemophilia). I vote urban legend.

Same. I've also had them peck my shins, to later realize I didn't have any mosquito bites.

Maybe an equipment or supplies thread or category would be good, if I’m not seeing it. Running outside constantly to play with, feed, clean, garden, etc..does anyone have any good slip on shoe recommendations? Especially the kind you don’t even have to bend over for? It’d be nice to have a dedicated “chickens” shoe that slips on and off quickly..
A friend of mine uses rubber boots that you can slip on and off easily. I prefer flip flops. They only cost a dollar and if you mess them up you can throw them away. They're easy to get on and the plastic soles are easy to wipe off on the grass if they get dirty.

I had to figure that out too. I keep a pair of rubber boots by both the back door and front door. I also have a pair of black rubber clogs that are super easy to slip into. It didn't take very long for me to get in the habit and quit running outside in my sandals 😤 and then having to wipe down the floor 🤣. I just make sure to keep them under the porch roof so they don't get wet inside.

I see someone beat me to it. Sloggers gardening shoes. Great shoe. But do it the low ones. I got some kind of ankle ones and they are difficult to get on with two hands let alone slip into. But the low ones are great. They are rubber and last forever if you don't get a puppy. Hose off. Replaceable insoles. Comfortable. They have them with chickens on them! I wore mine to the vet office and they bought all the employees chicken shoes after I left.

The kid's and I can all wear the same size flip flops so we just keep buckets of them by the doors for anyone coming in or going out. In mid seasons (spring & fall) we use old snow boots with felt liners removed. They fit almost everyone with liners removed. Maybe a little floppy on some but that's what thick socks are for. Winter means a minimum of 2 pairs of boots plus a pair of sneakers by the door for every member of the family. Except Dad and Pops! They never take off their workboots. No flip flops. No sneakers. No snow boots. No bars feet ever , not inside, not outside. I really don't know how they can live like that. But if we need a particular piece retrieved from the scrap wood pile or a frisbee pulled out of the briars, or a snake chased off the patio, they are the first to be called, and we never have to wait for them to find their shoes.

I bought these and LOVE them. They have been the best! They slip on easily and I can hose them off...come in multiple colors and sizes.
