gold laced silkies?(UPDATED PICS PG4+9, plus pics of new 2nd hatch ??)

Im slightly confused, as I was with the man when he took them out the nest boxes of the silkie pen, they looked perfect silkies to me.. oh well we will see when they feather up.... I bet knowing my luck I have emu's or something

They may have come out of a Silkie pen, but they are not Silkie feathered. Silkies don't get hard feathers, except on their feet. Their feathers should look "shredded" on the ends, whereas yours are regular hard feathers that most other birds get. Maybe he had a rogue rooster get in with the Silkies.


Also, you said you had chamois Polish in your bator, what do they look like?

These 2 chicks were from my first hatch, my 2nd lot of silkie eggs, and the polish eggs have not hatched yet... im on day 10 with them, all 12 fertile and doing great so far.

See.... why im so confised is that they were in closed pens, the attached runs to the coop had a wire roof, so im baffled how anything could have gotten in to the silkie chickens.... Well im stumped I have 3 more of these silkie eggs in the bator, so I will see how they turn out.... cant you tell im new to silkies.. and I bet the polish I have end up being raptors, as I am new to them also........ maybe I should have stuck with mixed hens, it was less hassel...

I am coming to the conclusion that where I live, there needs to be a place that sells pure bred chickens/ducks ect.. and not hybrids, you should get what you ask for......

1st I purchased 6 runner ducks, from a runner breeder, and 2 turned out to be hybrid.... now these silkies (even though I never paid for them) I have brought a polish cockeral and hen, and I am sure the cockeral is a hybrid... im giving up... I have a little polish chick he gave me also, and the luck I have had means he wont be pure... what if all them eggs in the bator are mixed... I aint to impressed at present

Yours look a lot like my liitle silkie x chocolate orpington chick I also got in the 'pure silkie' order apart from the colouring maybe he was crossing a gold laced orpington with a silkie to create a new colour? Just looked at the website again and the gold rooster looks to have straight feathers.
I f you live anywhere near Nottinghamshire I have lots of lovely pure breed chicks you could take your pick of obviously not the ones from Ebay though, lol.

Its so annoying isnt it, when you get something totally different than what you ordered.... yours was a very different.... a Guinea keet?? I bet you were annoyed, did you keep it?? I have heard they are really noisy... so I settled with a turkey... or what I think is a turkey lol.....

I will keep these chicks but wont use them for breeding, as I am not one of these people who could sell something to people as one thing, when its actually something totaly different.. I am on a mission now to be the only person arpund my area who sells proper pure bred chickens or hatching eggs....

P.s do you think the little polish is actually a polish... not holding out much hope ..........

Don't worry, your Polish is a Polish.

I really would contact whomever you got your "silkie" eggs from and tell him what your birds look like. There is no way that they are pure Silkie.

Yeah I think I am... I think I am going to wait though to see what the other 3 look like when they hatch, maybe it is a genuine mistake and something did manage somehow to get into the silkie coop, if they also end up being a mix I will mention to him...

Here is a picture of my 2 polish I purchased, I think the cockeral is a mix... the frizzle I dont think so, she looked a mess when my partner brought her home, but her feathers are looking alot better now, and getting better as each day goes by, this was taken about a week ago, are these pure polish.. or have I been had yet again????

As you can see she looks loads better than she did when we got her...
