Golden Cascades

Thanks for the detailed run-down! It's good to be hearing more about this breed. I got some WH from Metzer's a year and a half ago who started out crazy like that. The pair I kept actually did calm down with time. Here's hoping you get the same results.

My Golden 300s were great for eggs! They were a bit flighty, too, but MAN could they lay! I don't know who it was, but someone was laying either double-yolkers or two eggs per day for weeks straight last spring. Sadly, my husband isn't as fond of ducks as I am, so we traded most of the flock in for chickens.

I have Golden Cascade Ducks... My son had brought them home last year, they were already around 7-8 months old. So they weren't real friendly as if you had them as babies. But I have fed, watered, cleaned their pool & talk to them everyday since they have been here & they have gotten use to me. They are very pretty ducks. The drake for the longest time seem to be more interested in stalking the chickens, well he still does but finally he has been breeding/mating & chasing the hen around. She lays lots of eggs. May 4th was her first time to hatch 7 ducklings. There were Three other eggs in her nest not hatched, so I ended up putting & hatching them in the bator. They hatched almost a week later(May 10,11 &12th) She was a good & very protective mother & It was hard getting the babies from her. The daddy of those babies was my Rouen Duck. At the beginning of April(when GC started sitting) I separated the Rouen ducks & Golden Cascade ducks in separate areas, so I'm hoping the nest full of eggs right now will be ALL Golden Cascade. ~Julie~

I so hope mine calm down in time. I am only getting a dz duck eggs a day now from my other breeds since so many Runners decided to go broody.
Duck eggs are the best. What a shame other folks do not realize this.

Thank you for the info on yours. I feel I have hope yet with this breed.

What are Golden 300's? Are they like the GC ? I don't hear about very many people with GC ducks. I guess if my son never had come home with these ducks I would have never gotten in to them at all. He would bring animals/pets home & not think nothing about their needs... Nothing worse than having something that your not prepared for...shelter/housing, food and information that's always nice. lol But the way these ducks lay their eggs.. its crazy, my GC & Rouen had been laying back to back. right before the GC was done laying the Rouen would start so its like double eggs then if I have some chicken eggs in bator well then i end up loosing some duck eggs. looks like i need another bator lol Yesterday I took close to 25 eggs out of GC's nest. ~Julie~
