Golden Duckwing Welsummer - Large Fowl

The thing I don't understand, if I acquired something such as that (some Welsummer I mean, or whatever - you have to work to acquire that) I would for surely know 100% what it was, not "find out" later and also how did he "won Grand Dragon" if you don't know what he is? Grand Dragon of pretty roosters?

To me, I'm thinking - Grand Champion? Isn't the color not even accepted in the US yet? - So that would make him, at best, win best AOV, which even then he looks to have a squirrel tail.

I'm guessing he won at a county fair?

Don't want to sound rude, just curious with such information.

He looks like a Faverolle that is missing the face and feathering in the leg... Everything else is right... sometimes they don't feather like they should.. I am voting Salmon Faverolle or a cross to Salmon faverolle.

I love the colors.

He is a beautiful roo but something tells me there is another breed in that line. Or a "project Golden Duckwing Welsummer".

His beak should be either yellow or horn in color.

His legs should be yellow.

Eyes should be red, not yellow.

His chest feathers should not have any gold leaking, should be at least black with silver mottling.

Here is the UK standard: (I do not have the USA standard here yet) for the Silver Duckwing....replace Silver with Gold words.
PLUMAGE COLOUR
SILVER DUCKWING: MALE
Head, neck and hackles white. Breast, black with white mottling. Back, shoulder coverts and wing bow white. Wing primaries, flight feathers (out of sight as wings closed), inner web black, outer web white; secondaries, outer web white, inner web black, with white peppering, coverts black with green sheen forming a broad bar across primaries. Main black with beetle green sheen; coverts, upper black, lower black, edged with white. Abdominal and thigh fluff, black with white mottling.

I've seen Gold Duckwings, and the gold color on his back is normal, smutty kind but the UK breeders are working on enriching that color.

If you don't mind, I've been up most of the morning and need a break....I have the Welsummer's book that I will have look up more on.

Per Batty's Welsummer book.......eyes should be red or reddish brown, any lighter or darker should be penalized. Yellow or pearl colored eyes are a fault.

Legs should be yellow, the yellow-er it is, the better they like it with exception for hens that are laying would be light or bleached out yellow pigments on their legs.

Gold Duckwing color is very similiar to the Silver Duckwing, the standard of perfection is the same and UK said it was a non standard variety, not yet recognized by the UK Poultry Club......the book was published in 2002 so there should be an update version of it.

I would have to do some more research and get a hold of a few GD Welsummer owners.

I suggest improving your writing tone. I understand your intentions may be benign, but 50% of the time, you come off as having a know it all attitude. There are many other forms of expressing yourself without being rude, or "sounding" rude for that matter. I don't intend on beginning a quarrel...I wouldn't be worth it, but I do hope you think about what you write before posting.

I apologize for getting of topic.

As for your Welsummer, find him some good hens and send me some eggs! I wouldn't mind seeing one or two of those in my yard.
