My daughter did agility with her rescue mixed breed dog. She is a very laid back dog. Any dog can do agility, they don't have to be fast enough to compete. All sizes and shapes can do agility. It's really fun and increases the dog's confidence and makes a strong bond with the owner. They also end up very well trained because they have to be able to stay until told to start the course have to watch the owner to see where to go next, all off leash. That said, her dog is now too old for some of the obstacles so she does nose work and loves it.

She sounds like an amazing dog!! I’m thinking of trying both or one with my brothers rescue. She’s pretty high energy and very intelligent so I think she’d be good at either agility or nosework. She’s very fast and agile too, always jumping off the steps of the deck or over things or making sharp turns or whatever lol

This is my Girl Bindi. She is a Golden Retriver/ Aussie cross. Extremely loving and loyal. Was easy to train. She protects Chickens and Ducks, plus my

7 acres from Fox and Coyotes.
I love all dogs although Labs tend to have too much energy.

I can understand that, breeder dogs aren't right for everybody just like shelter dogs aren't for everybody. I kinda think people should just get whatever works for them, which is different for everybody.
Yes... last night I was thinking about how I hope I didn't come across as different that this... I DO realize that we too are all individuals with different needs. And so thanks for letting me share my thoughts and for sharing yours! Every day is an opportunity for me to grow. It's awesome that you've put so much thought into what WILL work for YOU. :highfive:

You are correct WAY too much energy in pointers. Insane is probably a good description. :)

AND... I swear I thought skijoring was a typo. :p But when used again, I had to go look it up. :thumbsup

No, no, you didn't come across different than that or negatively or anything at all!! I completely understand why people promote shelter dogs, they really are usually such amazing dogs, and I still may consider it so it's good you brought it up. And thank you to you too! I like sharing our thoughts/discussing stuff. :) and aw thank you that's so nice! I probably overthink stuff sometimes, have a lot of ideas and dreams and a lot of animals I want and things I want to do and whatnot but I guess sometimes it pays off because I do research everything a ton before I get any animals or do anything.

And yeah, they probably aren't the right dog for me then LOL but maybe one day

And nope, not a typo :p it's basically just cross country skiing with dog power added lol there is also bikejoring (dog pulling a bike), canicross (running with your dog but you still wear the harness/have them in front/handsfree like skijoring) and they also sell special scooters and carts but those are kind of expensive. But it just seems like a really fun sport and I've always wanted to try it. :) and real mushers and dog sled teams use the carts or even 4 wheelers/ATVs to train/run the dogs and keep them in shape in the off season. Using more than like two dogs for skijoring, bikejoring, or scootering would be dangerous lol anyway, a lot of people haven't heard of it, I hadn't until a few years ago, but once I found out about it, I knew I had to try it some day haha

And believe it or not, out west in like Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, they have skijoring with horses! it's not quite the same though, the horse is galloping down a road and the people go over jumps and try to collect rings. Way more stupid and dangerous :lau

I have some dogs that are very gorgeous and my golden retriever is pregnant and it is her first heat too. it looks like she has a lot of puppies in her stomach so she will probably have a big litter of them. she will probably have 10 or 11 puppies because she is big.
Mostly when dogs give birth one of them usually dies or maybe two but I hope one of her puppies don’t die.:hitgolden retriever puppies are so adorable especially when they get a little bit older!

Allowing a dog to get pregnant in their first heat... is not responsible ownership that has the best interest of the dog at heart, unfortunately... :(

Quality breeders especially of those type of breeds won't do it before they've fully matured AND had testing done for hip dysplasia.

I hope your puppies are healthy and your mama pulls through strong! I am sure they WILL be beautiful. :fl :love

I agree. I wanted to say it but wasn’t sure how without sounding harsh or mean but yours came across perfectly.

Most breeders now also do a lot more, usually elbows and eyes at minimum and often the heart too. Some do EIC (exercise induced collapse) and additional eye tests like PRA and stuff too. I don’t necessarily think every single one of those is necessary but I think do think that at a minimum hips, elbows, and eyes should be checked and heart is a very good idea too. Goldens are prone to several eye diseases as well as heart issues and of course hip dysplasia and cancer. Breeding stock should be tested for these things. Cancer can’t really be tested for but you can check the longevity of the dogs in the pedigree. There should be a lot more work and thought that goes into it than just throwing two dogs together. Not that you did but judging by her age I am guessing so or perhaps it was a mistake? In which case I get that accidents happen but she could experience developmental problems as she is now putting all her energy and nutrients into growing the puppies rather than growing her body like she should be. And given that you can’t even get official OFA results for hips and elbows until the age of two years old, dogs should not be bred before then.

And if the dogs are raised inside and properly taken care of, there shouldn’t be many if any deaths? Though of course nature happens and even with show breeders, deaths do happen, but hopefully there won’t be any and hopefully the mom and puppies will be healthy.

I try to share without judging... because just like you said about allowing a dog to roam when you were younger and didn't know better... we aren't born knowing everything... we learn as we go!

So openly sharing as @Animals45 did is wonderful... and how we learn from each other. Please know, I meant NO judgement towards you. We are here to support each other. :hugs

Exactly! I 100% agree. And I am sorry if my post came off a bit judgemental too. Some people genuinely don’t know or have no control over the situation (like I had no control over my parents letting the dog roam). I am sure we all care about and love our animals here and would never intentionally do anything to hurt them.
