Can anyone tell me if this is a Golden Phoenix cockerel? It popped up in some Serama hatching eggs I bought. Tail is getting very long and he holds it down & low. I was getting ready to take it to the auction as a very bad quality Serama lol!

I think you might be right about this being a Phoenix. Those tail feathers are definitely coming in black and I've never seen a Serama with a tail like that!

Do you have any way of contacting the seller of the eggs to see if they keep Phoenix?

I'm no expert on Phoenix, but that does not look like a Golden Phoenix to me. Golden Phoenix look like this:

My best guess is that your bird is a poor quality Nankin. He's still pretty, though!

The bird is 9 or 10 weeks old, has slate blue legs and white earlobes. I thought Nankins had red earlobes and carried their tails more upright? This one holds his tail horizontally.

To me, he doesn't look like a Golden Phoenix. My guess is that he's a poor quality Serama/Serama cross.

Perhaps he's a Phoenix cross. I was assuming that his tail was just coming in, and it looks like it's coming in black. I couldn't find any photos of young Phoenix.

I'd personally sell him and let the buyer sort it out.
