When I moved back home last year, I got two unknown birds from a local poultry swap. A gent was selling both as a pair - he got them as a mystery bird in his order and sold them because he just had no idea what the heck they were. Today I saw a bird that looked similar and decided to look them up. The one I saw was The Chicken Chick's Ellen DeHeneres, a Wheaten x Black Copper Marans hen.

I have this one, and another girl that has the same exact build/feather colors and patterns. Also strangely the same bald spot on the neck? Their eggs are a fairly light brown color though, so I'm wondering if they're even Marans, or if they are, just hatchery/low quality Marans.

Thanks!

A wheaten x black copper marans is supposed to have black copper coloring, so those couldn't have been purebred. My guess about the bird in the picture? Gold campine with bad coloring or gold campine cross.

I wouldn't think campine... they're a sleek and slender chicken and this one is rather bulky. I stand by my assessment of barnyard mix.
Which is why i suggested campine cross. The coloring is dominant, so if crossed to a rather bulky chicken, you'd get this. The coloring is definitely campine
