Hi, nice to see you again. I always think of that post where MD and PC were boating to Australia (?) I think.
Anyway, I know how dear Goldi is to you, and would be to me too. At the age of 17, my guess would be that she had some sort of stroke. I would think that arthritis would develop slowly over time and not just suddenly.
Good luck with the sweet chicken.

Goldi is VERY PROTECTIVE of Helen. She has a sharp beak. Goldi wouldn't
let me or MD get within 10 feet of Helen without the squawking, bok boking,
and oh the eyes...

My Reply Thankyou so very much.

My reply: Yes and she used to be able to jump 2 feet in the air which would be at just the right height to do some major damage!

My reply: whos, eyes, mine or hers?
Not knowing what caused Goldi not to be able to stand, and trying to think of something beneficial that shouldn't have a down side no matter the cause, coenyzme Q10 comes to mind. It is good for circulation, which may be helpful at this time. Someone on BYC gave it to his chicken who had a purple comb (could indicate circulation/heart troubles) and the problem went away. Could have been a coincidence in that case - hard to say. I have just started giving it to my roo. It's benefits in humans are well documented - everything from dramatically improving circulation to shrinking tumors down to innocuous sizes. Have also read studies about it's benefits in livestock. CoQ10 is available in most health food stores, and certainly also on line. As supplements go, it is expensive.
Wow, thankyou so much for that info JJthink, I have a lovely health food store here in town so ill go in the morning and see if they have any. Definately worth a try.
I have Goldi in her basket next to the heater.
It is an oil filled column heater which isnt too hot, not radiant and is on low to keep the chill off the air. We are in the middle of winter, though we dont get as cold as most folk over there.
She has her heat pack next to her and a blankie draped loosely over her back to keep her snug.
She is a dear old lady who needs lots of tlc right now and ill be there for her.
Thankyou.
