Golf ball question

I put 2 golf balls in both nest boxes a couple weeks ago, my older chickens have been using the boxes and the younger chickens have just started laying a few days ago in the boxes. I went out to the coup today and the golf balls had been kicked out of the boxes, there are lips on the boxes so they didn't just get pushed out they had to be kicked out, my question is should I put them back or not.

This afternoon, in two nest boxes where I had placed one golf ball each, both golf balls were moved into one nest box, and there were 3 eggs laid in that same box.

I had a ping pong ball in each nest box...came home from a trip for work & found one ball missing. I freak, thinking that something crazy has gone down..turns out, my husband robbed the nest box when he needed something to roll across our basement flooring to test how level it is!

Maybe a bird needed it to play 9 and forgot to return it.
