Cochins often get frostbite, especialy the males. Also, I've had Fuzzy cochin feet Freeze to muddy ground before! Of course mine are SQ and probably have heavier feet feathering, so I guess it depends on what strain of cochins you have...

No one mentioned LF brahmas???? Definitely worth looking into.
Here's a pic of two of light brahma hens, two of my darks and my dark brahma rooster. I also have buffs. Nothing bothers these birds and they adore wintertime:

I don't like that site

1; I it wrong alot of the time (Faverolles are Not Cold hardy)

2; It also mixes up Ameraucanas and EEs, and uses hatchery pictures of EEs (which Drives me INSANE!)

that may be so, but it has links to a lot of valuable resources

as far as the ameraucana go they also have as moderately early maturing

but I still love that it links to feather site too

Living in Interior Alaska, I deal with average winter temps of -20 F with temps frequently dipping to the -40 to -60 F range. I've found the crested breeds to not be as winter hardy as some other breeds because their crest feathers will ice up. You have to trim the crest feathers way back up here. Brahmas do fantastic up here as do Cochins (although you have to watch the combs on the Cochins for frostbite). The feathering on the feet of these breeds helps them stay warmer plus Brahmas are good, gentle, calm, dual purpose chickens.
