good idea. or no? piercing question...

I got mine done in a shop in NYC on a road trip at 18. Look at me. I'm 40! Still pierced, but it's not all that wonderful now.

I can't even begin to tell you how hard you have to work to get through cartilage yourself- I've done the cart. in my ears in 5 places- it's hard, and the hole isn't big enough so you have to go through it again when you put in the stud- really takes muscle, and you're hurting yourself, so your body fights you making the effort. I have a crazy pain tolerance, but cartilage pain is pretty different: it aches for a long time when you do it on your own because you can't do it fast enough and it gets really bruised. Go to a shop. All of the talk of infection is absolutely true, btw.

The lasting effect of being permanently pierced is beside the point, but: I never thought I'd want a life w/o a mohawk and CBGB's...and now I'm Betty Cracker, so what we think we'll want when we get older can change far more than we believe. I say go for what can be hidden when you're in business attire so you're not sabotaging your future self, just in case. My tats are under wraps, and the piercings are subtle (thank God!) and if they weren't I'd have dramatically limited my future self. Fact is, you just don't have the same opportunities as folks whose bodies aren't screaming they don't play by the rules- and I don't believe in judging, but REALITY says lots of folks judge harshly by looks.

Consequences occur whether we believe they ought to or not.

I'm also one that thinks some piercings look better on guys than girls and vice versa.

He has a lip ring and I think he looks so good with it, but I would look stupid.

Some people look good with eyebrow rings, others don't. Same with nose rings. Some look great with studs, some with little hoops.

IMO, a ton depends on your facial structure, choice in piercing and jewelry, etc.

i like how my fat friends saw that i had a belly button thingy, and then they wanted and got one too....

I embrace my kids, but I still have no problem telling them when they look like a doofus.

My son has a mohawk right now and we're going to dye it orange for baseball tournaments coming up (his team color). *I* would never do it, but...meh...it's hair. I pick my battles. It's not permanent. It can be shaved off. No big. Piercings or tattoos will not be happening until they are old enough to sign for it themselves. I do not want to be the one that they blame if they hate it later.

I don't have a problem with industrials or any other ear piercings. The majority of piercings will heal up. Fortunate for those who change their minds, unfortunate for those of us that just forget to put their rings back in for a little bit.

If you do get a piercing(s), I strongly recommend cleansing with sea salts.

I have three teenagers and one 11 y/o and I guess I see it as my job to not only embrace, but guide my children. They will not do anything to make themselves hard to employ with my permission while they are minors. It's too competitive out there for that, IMO.

That said, when my 15 y/o wanted her ears pierced, I took her to a tatt shop. They use good quality surgical steel hoops which is good for people with sensitivities to metal (my husband has to wear a titanium wedding band and I have to wear stainless earrings myself) and they have much more of a reputation to maintain than a kiosk at the mall.

When my 17 y/o wanted her ear (yeah, just one) pierced, I took her to the same place. It's not that expensive and it's worth every penny to have it done right.

One of the reasons I'm kind of strict is that some of my kids want to be teachers, so they will need good references from their current teachers for scholarships and also, if they decide they want to teach in this district, for employment down the road. Unfortunately, people do judge others by appearances and it's kind of crazy to give them something negative to fixate on when you don't have to. If you want to work in a professional setting, you have to be able to look like a professional. Abby on NCIS is the most adorable thing in the world, but TV is not real life and you don't want to show up at a job interview most places looking like that. There are definite exceptions, but why limit your options.

I have at least 7 tats(have more than 1 in some spots, but 7 locations). My friend was over the other day and when I bent over to grab something she said I didn't know you had tats. She saw my tramp stamp and it's pretty big. The only one she ever saw is my wedding band which is covered when I wear my rings. Every one is strategically placed so depending on how I dress depends on how many you see

. If I dress up nice usually only 2 are visible, one on my ankle and one on my scapula(back of shoulder) and they are feminine. I kind of regret the ankle cuz I got it just cuz I wanted to go get a tat. Make sure you know what you want before you go. My twin neices did their own and got them covered, still had problems and they look a little funny, so make sure when/if you do get a tat go to a professional

Make sure its a good professional, not everyone in the business is good enough. Do some shopping around, and wait at least 6 months before getting what you want
Chances are if its still something you want done after that time then you're not going to have sudden regrets.

LOL i love you guys

i want a HelloKitty tramp stamp xD
also i dated a guy that got a tat from his brother and omg. (they were stoned at the time) and now he has a rainbow tramp stamp, i swear he does!
