Good Morning from Maryland

Great to meet you Shirley. What a wonderful son you have. Welcome to Backyard chickens. The photo with your son in the wired area, made me wonder if you decided to keep him in there

Hmmmm now that's a thought for the next time he goes and builds me something. LOL

Hi Shirley, I'm late to your post here, but have to say I really enjoyed reading this beautiful story about your childhood & going to the country & holding hands walking to the coop with your Grandma... that was just beautiful.
It's so sweet your son built you the coop & went to get chickens (Shh...your chickens... I know... secret's safe with me too! haha!)... But that was lovely and what a great thing to do! :) Hope things went well with the new chicks for you! I have Buff Orpington too and such a sweet soul... I had to laugh at the part where you wrote that she got broody & cranky! I can't imagine that yet - as mine won't start to lay till maybe August... but now I'm prepared!!! haha! Have a great day!

:highfive: @Cntry1958 hasn't been online for quite some time. I hope he makes it back to see your nice message. Thank you!

Its been a while since I have been on and had time to chat. Lots have gone on in my life. I have lost some chickens to old age. Some are retired and still around 1 of our originals my son favorite and mine to. Her name is Blonde she is a Orp. She is so loving and now has a hard time standing and walking. She sleeps in the coop with the others but during the day she has her own small run so the other girls don't end up hurting her.

We ended up giving our younger girls that we had to a family that lost their flock and his 3 year old grandson who just cried and cried when they lost his favorite. I went and got a few fertile eggs and hatched 3 eggs to start and bought a few day old chicks for our new flock. The three are just backyard mixes but the others are Rhode Island Reds and Easter Eggers, and a Wyndotte breed that I never had before. They are all about 16 weeks right now and I can't wait to get my first egg. Store bought eggs are just not the same I miss my fresh eggs daily.
