Good tips that you use to keep chickens cool in the summer when it is 100°

S. Indiana - known for "muggy" heat with humidity.
FANS! Fans made for the outdoors are also available with rechargable battery packs. Misters start at $10 (Orbit Cobra) or there are systems at all price ranges. Misting systems work best in a low humidity environment. However, because humidity falls relatively when temperatures exceed 90 degrees, they are still highly effective even in more humid conditions. I have box fans hanging from rafters in the coop. (I can’t imagine not giving chickens a fan when they’re cooped up at night in a hot box). Outdoor fans are pointed under the deck where they go when the heat is oppressive. All animals drink more when their water is cool. My chickens absolutely love ice water! I give them a refreshment every few hours. Cut-up watermelon or grapes help keep them hydrated.

Block of ice in waters, an outdoor fan pointed into the run, a overhead misting system, no fatty foods.

I make sure to give my chickens cool, clean water and plenty of shade. In the summer we don't feed them any carbs. Cool treats like watermelon rinds, strawberry tops, and leafy greens like lettuce are good for them. Sprinkling garden/lawn litter around the run helps to attract moisture and cool down the area.

Aquaponic water chiller is good if you have power to recirculate their drinking water.

They don't use a lot of wattage and can be run off a small solar panel charging a battery if off grid is needed.

Glad to hear someone has luck with the Cobra Misters -- I had THREE Cobras and every one leaked so much water out of the couplers that we couldn't use them. The Cobras wasted more water at the hose connection than was coming out the mister nozzles! We swapped out 3 Cobras, used 3 different new hoses, and we even bought new mister nozzles thinking that our hard water was clogging the tiny holes -- but Nope! The Orbit Cobra couplers were junk at the bottom where the hoses connected.

We have more success with an ordinary lawn sprinkler attachment that has 8 circular dial modes of spray and we haven't had any leaking at the coupler and no clogging of any of the dial mode holes and it was half the cost of one Cobra Mister! This circular sprinkler has lasted three years where the Cobras were useless to us from the beginning. The birds play in the sprinkler water all day under a shady canopy:

sprinkler on the roof of the main coop and It cooled it down about 10 degree
This is an awesome idea!
I've been hosing down the inside of their run in morning and late afternoon and they immediately go to those spots and lay.
I knew it would cool down your vehicle after a carwash but never thought bout spraying the roof of the coop or run!
You don't think a metal roof would heat back up even hotter and more humidity?
I'm in TN and the heat wave here is insane!

Lots of good ideas here. I've done most of them, except for the ones that add humidity. It's usually 100 here by 10:30- 11:00 (real time not fake govt. time) so lots of trips out to cool down the water.

Can you give 6-8 week old chicks these too?
I either finely chop or grate fruit & veg for our young birds, makes it easy for them to eat!
And if you put their "treats / snacks" in the fridge, rather than the freezer, you won't cool them down too much! 😁
Important that they have shade and plenty of water...
