goodbye incandescent bulbs

They say if you are in a room when one breaks, you have to get out fast so you don't inhale the fumes.

I like the fact that in order to save a few pennies for lighting we are going to pollute the environment with mercury from the new bulbs.

Exactly!!!! Who thinks this stuff up?

Amen sister!

I hope they don't do this in Canada. sheesh. I love the environment <3 so I was into these bulbs awhile ago. Not anymore. They are a pain in the butt. And if you break one it's a big deal. So be careful with them!

I think they are working on LED bulbs, I don't know much about them other than they are energy efficient. Maybe they'll be a better alternative. Until then stock up on the old bulbs and boycott the mercury filled ones.

LEDs are already available in stores; they're incredibly expensive, but they almost never burn out.

They won't solve your heat problems. However, HEAT LAMPS -- bulbs specifically marketed for heat output -- are not affected by the new law, nor are 25 watt, or anything over 100 watt. They will still exist.

we have gotten some good cfls that go on right away.... there is some code on the bulb that lets you know - don't remember what it is...

we switched to using a reptile heater for the chicks after someone posted here about fires caused by light bulbs in chick boxes.... i always worried about that - esp when they were in the house

first year -- it worked well - you should look into it...
