GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

My little girl's neck is bent. It's developed within the last 2 hours or so since she's been hanging in her tub here next to me while I do school work. She is eating, drinking, and running after me just fine.. But there is a definite curve to the neck that wasn't there before. Wry neck keeps coming up when I search it... Anyone know if it's fixable and how? I'm seeing stuff about a brace? She's been having save a chick elecrolites for days now... Going to get other vitamins in the morning.. She's been having romane, kale, and turnip greens for 2 days too. And grit.

I don;t know anything like that about geese.

This might sound dumb, but I've heard some conflicting advice. Do I need to worm and powder for lice and mites? How do you do it? I have tried looking, but it's near impossible with all that down.

Busy, busy day today. I got all my geese separated into their different pens! Soooo glad to have that finished. I swear I have bruises all over from getting slapped by their wings. Oh well, it was worth it!

Pictures coming soon...

I don't know? I've wondered that myself. However, I do know that last winter I fed garlic powdered, apple cider vinegar, and a couple other supplements and their droppings all smelt like garlic...it made their pens smell a lot better. ; ) I'm not sure parasites of any kinds could have lived in their system. lol

Goose egg hatching can vary 30-35 days, different breeds, or low or high temps. I hatched a few out at 32 & 33 days last year.

My mostly one time experience , with Angel wing came last year. I ran 2 still air Hovabators last year, adding eggs every two weeks for 6 hatches (learning curve). I had angel wing appear twice in 2 years, the first year it was a hookbill duck, so I thought fluke. Last year it happened in one hatch in 3 ducks of different breeds. Both times I had changed to Tractor Supply starter over Purina Flock Raiser, and I wasn't as careful to get them outside early for the day as young as I usually did. These were all purebred ducks out of my Holderread Ducks. I believe it was because I changed the feed to Dumor (both times) and the getting them outdoors, exercise, greens, or sunshine? When I followed "Storeys Guide to Ducks" about managing the babies,I did fine. When I wasn't as diligent ;ie " cutting feed with oats, changing protein levels at 3 weeks, giving greens, getting outside....I got Angel wing. FWIW
